Open the tail gate, you will se two screws that faten the lens to the body. Remove the two screws. Place the palm of your hand on the far out side of the lens and pull back as far as you can!

(There are two pins that align/lock the assembly into the fender.) The purpse of pulling back as far as you can is to get as much finger room between the fender and the edge of the lens as you can. Insert your fingers between the fender and the lens edge. Now with your oposing hand do the same thing in the general area where you removed the two srews. In a direction that is aligned with the way the truck travels forward, pull like hell to the reverse direction!!

Warning! if you twist the lens you will break the post that align into the fender gromets to both align & lock the lens into the fender. Trust me, this is an expensive thing to do, so avoid it where ever you can.

An easier way, yes. Instead of using your fingers, use a flathead screwdriver. After removing the two hex head screws located in the jamb (lower the tailgate and you will find them), pivot the lens assembly out and you will see two openings on the side and back of the assembly, one near the top and one near the bottom. Place a long flat head screw driver into the slot about 3-4", you will notice that the slot is flat along the back of the assembly. With the shank of the screw driver resting against the jamb, give it a gentle pop to remove the pin from its retaining grommet, do this in both slots as there are two pins. No problem and no damage to your assembly or fingers.

Thank author of this post/comment"Retired engineer"

Instead of using a screwdriver under the edge of the tail light, try to get a strong piece of cloth or something similar, small rope or cord around the whole edge of the tail light and pull the light housing back. There is less possibility of scratching the paint, or breaking the plastic on the tail light housing.
