I have a 2000 F-250 Diesel and my cruise control quit working too. It worked intermittantly for a while but now has stopped altogether. I am wondering if it is a class problem as well. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

Warning! 1) Check if your Ford is on the recall list. 2) If it is, take it to a dealer to fix it. I would not advise putting a fuse in, the cause of the fires is due to the breach in a thin film between the master cylinder side of the switch and the electrical side of the switch which is "hot" even when the vehicle is off and standing. Powering that circuit back up, could cause a fire under the circumstances listed in the recall. Hope that helps. Garry

I expected the mfg fix to address the hazard. I did not expect the mfg fix to leave the cruise control disabled and unusable. Was this intended?

I have a 2001 F250 diesel. I could never get the cruise control to respond when the buttons were pressed. Pried the buttons out and broke the little "ears" that hold them in place. But, the switch buttons were exposed and the system responds correctly when they were pressed. All butons & switches come as a package and cost over $90. I'm going to ckeck for a recall when I go to pick them up. Will let you know results

According to the service at the local Ford dealer, there has been no recall for the 2001 F250 diesel on cruise control problems. So, the remedy for my problem of no contact between the buttoms on the steering wheel and the switch only cost $198.90. Four switches, $87.60. Installation $111.30. What a racket!

I have a manual trans (5.4L gas). Odd that the cruise control option was even available. I rarely used it except on straightaways. My expectation was that the Ford-engineered repair/retrofit would not have diminished other functionality. I mean, why didn't Ford simply cut the master cylinder harness and call it good if they didn't intend for the cruise control to work??

2002 Ford F-250...the 4 wheel, cruise control and overdrive didn't work. Per the maint manual (nothing in the owner's manual) on the cruise control I replaced fuse 34 & checked 27 suddenly the 4wheel drive started working. I'll have to update later on the cruise control...a couple of beers were necessary celebration for curing the 4 wheel problem! In days of old, my 1949 Ford had like 6 fuses of the glass type. Opening the fuse box told the story as a triggered fuse was obvious. Now they have like 100 fuses and a few fusible links. If one is lucky enough to find the darn things each must be removed to be checked. It's a shame that Ford has not seen fit to publish as "as-built" for the electrical system. Maybe others will list system fuses.

I have a 2000 F250 7.3L Diesel; cruise control works only when it wants too!I think based on the # of comments in this forum it is a Ford problem and should be recalled.

I received a Recall 05S28 from Ford, saying to make an appointment with my local Ford Dealer. Regarding an open safety recall to address a potential underhood fire risk on my vehicle. Ford says my vehicle hasn't inspected or repair. A fire could occur at any time, even if not running. Its a no-charge service to replace or repair the speed control system. My appointment is for next Tueday morning. www.genuineservice.com I bought this 1999 F-250 from the Ford Dealership two years ago, shouldn't it have been repaired already?

2002 F250 Cruise quit working a few weeks after purchase in Sept. 2009. Found out about master cylinder switch problem and checked for fluid. Found fluid coming out of switch plug. This truck had already had the fusable link installed. The fuse is blown. Bypassed the fusable link with the original terminal. Observed small amount of smoke in the leaking switch. Unplugged.Obviously Ford did not permantely fix this problem.

The new 2009 recall appears to be very similar to the previous recall, circa 1999. The speed sensor design on the master cylinder still has a failure mode that allows current draw in a portion of the sensor body that cannot withstand excessive heat. The fix on my '00 F250 is a new speed sensor harness that disables the entire cruise control function. This fix was probably something they could enact overnight. Fair enough. Maybe they need to sink some of that new gravy profit in a better R&D effort.
