2000 f250-- I replaced gem mod--no lights on dash when 4 wheel switch is engaged--would a defective drive motor cause the this problem? If not, anyone have any suggestions?
I have a 2003 f250 Diesel and my 4x4 would not work, the dealer told me it was the hubs. i replaced the module on the passenger fender, it has a white top, vaccume lines and one electrical plug. That fixed my problem and helped my fuel mileage big time!!
i have a 2000 f150 4x4, and my 4x4 will not engage when i turn the switch. the light comes on but there is no 4x4 in high or low.
I have a 2002 f250 when in 4 wheel drive while accelerating a noise from the driver side appears let off gas it stops or becomes unnoticable can't tell if it completely stops when letting off gas or just gets really quiet. The sound is like it's something to do with the tire or near it. Sounds like theres plastic rubbing against a tire but i know thats not it. While driving in 4 wheel drive I put it in 2 wheel drive the noise is completely gone. Help please!!
I have a 2003 F-250... Electronice shift on the fly... Light turns on, but it will not engage. After reading all the posts, I'm thinking it is the transfer case motor. Is there a simpe way to check this? How complicated is it to change out?
I have a 2000 F250 w/7.3 powerstroke. It has the electronic shift on the fly on the dash. However, when I try to engage either 4-high or 4-low, all I hear is a "click" underneath the truck when I have the door open. The lights do come on in the dash.
i have a 2003 f 250w/7.3 powerstroke and auto locking hubs when in auto theres nothing when in lock i have 4x4 but i also dont have any vacume at the pass side i replaced the knukle and seal but still no vacume i dont know if it is the lockout or what it is . can anyone please help???
My 2007 F250 was doing the same, no 4x4 unless I get out and lock the hubs manually.By simply using the process of elimination- if the system works when you turn the hubs manually then it has to be the mechanism that engages the hubs in the auto position- in other words the dashboard switch and the electronics should be ok. My instinct said the vacumn is the problem because I also experienced a heat problem for one day and noticed the fuel economy is not as good.
My 1998 F250 4x4 is not working properly.
Changed actuator. I watched it move. No dash air.
Solenoids are working, they both make appropriate clicking noise.
Dash switch works,
dash light indicates 4x4 working. It takes about a minute to engage.
4x4 low does not engage even when following the proper procedure.
I'm wondering if there is not enough vacuum because of a leaking vacuum line. Is the "module" defective? What does it do?
How does the transfer case vacuum pump work with the 4x4 system?
More reading I guess
2007 ford f350 4x4. had work down on front hubs as seals were leaking. since then we swith is switch to 4 x4 h in intermitently goes sometimed takes a few minutes. they replce the 4x 4 modula and the 4x4 drive motor. still doing the same, they say all the vacumes hose are good. if you shut off truck and switch it into 4x4 h and then turn the truck on it seems to work fine. but if you start in 2 w drive and then try switch sometime it works some time not. any sujestions
i have a 04 350, i put warn hubs on and everything worked fine.I now have no 4b4.my drive shaft turns and my light is on, i checked my hubs to see if there moving in and out and held the axle to see if the lock up.i here a slite clunk noise at first but then nothing?
where is the 4x4 module behind the glove box please help
4x4 module is in the right corner behind the glove box i am having problems to on my 02 f350 nothing working in dash also changed shift motor and that did not help
I have an 01 f250 7.3. The 4x4 wont engage, no light, replaced switch and checked fuses. please let me know what the problem is. Thanks
when i put in 4x4 ther is nothing on lights or noise and my fuel gauage stays on full checked fuses lose wires cant find anything help thanks cliff
to Jon. check the fuse panel under the steering column behine the panel with 4 plastic screws. fues number 19 i believe is the one 10 amp mini fuse. the 4x4 control modules rarely go out also try locking your hubs manually. if the fuse is goo and your hubs are locked check the switch with a voltmeter. the white wire with the light blue stripe should change from voltages when switching from 2-4-4low should have 5.5 volts in two high give or take .1 volts 4 high voltage should drop to 2.5 and 4 low it should drop to .9 this switch is not an on off switch just a signal voltage switch. Try that and see what it does.

to mickey. check to see if you have good vacuum going to the hubs by removing the vacuum lines on side at a time or with the truck off turn the ignition to the on position and see if the vacuum pump mounted on the inside of the passenger front fender is working if the pump is working it should make a decent sound that you will hear. could be a vacuum issue or you could have a bad tranfer case shift motor. really need to know a bit more about what its doing

to anyone with a 4 wheel drive problem. in order to help please try the following first always try locking your hubs manually first before posting here. that eliminates so many possibilities by itself which helps me acurately diagnose the problem. there are 30 different things between the switch and vacuum lines that could be the problem but if 4 wheel drive works with the hubs locked its between point a and b and if it doesnt work its between points c and d. theres 30 different things between each set of those points so please try the hubs before posting and let me know what happens so i can help. Thanks to all
"gas gauge and 4x4"
clif please try what i metioned first and let me know what happens. as far as the fuel gauge more tham likely your fuel level float in the fuel tank is stuck at the top.
"vaccuum and how it works on ford 4x4 system"
daultin the vacuum pump has lines that go the the locking hubs on your wheels when vacuum is aplied to the locking hubs it pulls a locking collar backwards onto a splined shaft that comes out of the front axle housing if youve ever had the hubs off youll notice that the hub has splines on the inside and outside the inside splines go to axles the outer splines to the wheel hubs so when vacuum is aplied and the collar moves onto the axle it locks the hubs into the axle bascially to engage 4 wheel drive. if you have a vacuum leak your 4 wheel drive will not work at all it its switching into 4 high and just not 4 low more than likely its the switch or the mudule behind the glove box or possibly the shift motor on the bottom of the transfer case.
"nothing in the dash"
daryll if nothing on the dash is working you more than likely need a gen module.

I am having problems with my esof. When I switch to 4hi, I hear the clicking and the lights come on in the dash indicating 4x4. Usually it does go in, however, after driving a short distance it pops out of 4x4 yet the dash indicator light stays on. I have replaced both auto/lock style hubs to the tune of $500+, have no issues with the heater switching from defrost to floor etc, my vaccum tested fine by mech's, and I will stay in four if I put the hubs in lock position. I know I shouldn't worry since I can force it by going to lock on the hubs, but it isn't right and has never done this until this fall. Any direction?

Try putting the truck in reverse and step hard on the gas, the slam on the brake. It seems to come out of 4X4 every time. It is worst in cold weather.
