| 2005 6.0 diesel wont starti have a 2005 f250 diesel and it started overheating. i turned it off and let it cool down. it was out of anitfreeze/coolant. i added 3 gallons of coolant and when i started it it smoked like a freight train coming from the exhaust. the mechanic later told me that this was actually white steam. he said it was my EGR cooler. i drove around for two days until he could change it and it steamed out the exhaust like crazy an overheated faster and faster. it got to the point to where it would overheat every 10 miles and i had an ice chest full of water in the bed i would open the cap and fill a bottle to put in the coolant/antifreeze bottle. over those two days i noticed it wouldnt smoke once you get moving or not as much but when you stop or just start it it smoked alot. it started to hesitate and idle rough at a dead stop and slow speeds like 15 mph and below. the day i was bringin it to the shop i was in the neighborhood going about 25 and it shut off. i felt the power steering go out and when i gave it some gas it was done. so i pulled over and it hasnt started since. it turns over but wont fire up. since then the EGR cooler has been changed and they said i needed to change the engine oil cooler so that was also changed. they said it could have contaminated the diesel fuel so we drained the lines and the tank and checked the fuel pump but that also is still working. does anyone know what my problem could be? thanks!! |
#111/22/09 12:35dan padilla | I have 2004 Ford Power Stroke 250. I have problems starting from time to time especially during cold mornings. I moved to a much warmer area and now I have problems starting it. I replaced both batteries with those recommended at Walmart. Could I now need new glow plugs? I have noticed that in the evening my head lights are not as bright as they should be. I am now plugging in my 250 at night and sometimes it starts with no problem and sometime it does't. Help! |

#301/03/10 22:36Joe Chandler | i have a 2005 f250 6.0 diesel super duty that will not start now. i drove it to the gas station and filled it up with fuel and went to start it up and and it never fired up. i checked both batteries and fuses and they are fine. i was told it had a plug underneath that needed to be plugged up when it is cold but i cannot seem to find it. any suggestions? |
#402/21/10 13:32Jeff Wolfe | I have the same problem, after changing the oil cooler and egr cooler. I drove it for approx. 100 miles the engine died and would not restart. I towed it home. I decided to try to start it and it started right up. I then shut it off and again it wouldn't restart. I left it overnight and the next morning it started. I then put it in my garage and the next day it would not start and hasn't started since. Anybody have any ideas? |

#809/26/10 19:26mike Sparks | I have a 2005 F250 6.0, just had new heads and gaskets, radiator, overflow tank, ARP head studs, AFE stage 2 intake installed last month due to head gasket failure. Has been running excellent. Filled up, drove 100 miles towing my boat, stopped and turned it off for 15 minutes, went to crank it and wouldn't start. Turned over but wouldn't crank. After checking and changing fuel filter still only turned over. After an hour in the parking lot it started up again and running great. Anyone have any ideas what I might need to be looking forward to replacing soon? After $6000 in repairs last month I'm really not in the mood for more money to be put into this truck. Thanks for any idea and/or suggestions. |
| I have a 2004 f250 6.0 super duty diesel and yesterday as I was driving home it overheated, so I stopped and let it cool off for an hour and opened the radiator cap and gray stuff spewed out of it. I filled it back up with water and went down the road maybe 15 miles and it overheated again. So I took it to my mechanic the next morning after I had somebody drive another 15 miles to come get meand take me back to the truck after it cooled completely off and it is driving fine even on the way home, and he told me that he could tell me it wasn't the oil cooler because he said the truck didn't have one, but he told me he had never seen this happen, but he did tell me I had oil in my radiator. I bought this truck used from a dealership 2 months ago!!! Keep in mind I'm not losing any power, the truck cranks fine, and it is running fine, has no white smoke coming out of the tailpipe or black smoke except when I put the pedal to the medal on it going up a hill, and it only overheats when I drive it for more than an hour except that one time but I didn't let it cool off completely. Thanks for any help in advance! |
| It's not just limited to f250's We have 250's, 350's &550 super duty. We have replaced modules sensors pumps filters injector pressure controllers &switches These are all low mile late model trucks. Ford won't do anything but take your money. They(ford) told us that they changed engine manufacturers. But what they need is to recall all these junk 6.0 engines HEY MIKE ROWE you got the right job Americas dirties jobs Yeah ford truck adds Dirty, Dirty , Dirty |
#1110/05/10 22:34Tim Rifenburgh | I own a 2005 F350 6.0 diesel with only 72000 miles. I have had to egr cooler valves replaced. When this problem occurred, my overflow bottle was filled with oil. The faulty valve allows the oil and water to mix together. The is a well known problem for the 6.0's but Ford refuses to accept responsiblity. Another answer to your questions about the truck starting when cold but not starting when hot is going to be you oil pump broken bracket that is also another too common problem that Ford accepts no responsibility for. Once the engine oil gets hot, the broken brackets prevents the oil pump from pumping enough oil through the IPR sensor to tell the computer to turn on the fuel to start the engine. I know this after paying 650 for a IPR sensor replacement on Friday only to have the same problem on Friday PM. I was told today that that the problem is the broken oil pump bracket. This is costing another 900. Ford should accept responsibility for these faulty parts and keep us satisfied. I will never buy another Ford. The ohter common Ford 6.0 problem is faulty head gaskets. Mine will be next I'm sure. More money to spend. |
#1210/31/10 08:18Jeff Jackson | I have a 2003 ford f250 6.0 deisel. I bought the truck used with 141, 000 miles. Dealer said it had 3 injectors replace at a cost of $1, 800 dollars. Truck ran awsome for 6, 000 miles and now haveing trouble with running too rich and loss of power at rpm over 3000 and blows blue smoke out the tail pipe. Does not happen all the time. Only when idling for a long time and in between start up and operating temp. I have to plug the truck in at night when its cold or it runns terrible till warm. First ford i ever owned and the last!!!!! |
