Ford-F250 - 2000 f250 7.3 diesel, Major oil leak

I have an oil leak that seems to be from the area of the high pressure oil pump on my 2000 f250 7.3 powerstroke diesel engine. I know nothing about diesel engines but have worked on gasoline engines for many years. I've read on-line that the high pressure oil pump o-rings have been known to be a source of such major oil leaks as I have. My questions are, Other then the o-rings, is there anything else that has been known to cause a leak from that immediate area of the engine? If I am to replace the o-rings, what exactly should I be doing here, do I need to drain anything first, do I need to prime anything when done or is there anything I shouldn't be messing with without special tools?
