outside temp sensor

I have a 2002 f150 s/c it has a roof consule with temp and compass. The temp seems to show the inside temp as the truck warms up. Anyone know where the sensor is?

the sensor is located just forward of the radiator. you have to pull the horizontal plastic shroud off to expose it. it has a two wire connector.

I just purchased a 2009 Ford Escape. The model I purchased does not have the temperature sensor, but the radio panel has the appropriate lighting.

Can I simply purchase an outside temperature sensor & add it ?
