Shifter linkage adjustmentI have a F-150 and I am having an issue that my linkage for my shifter will not go into park. I have to move the shifter to a nutral position which is actually the Drive position to get it to start. How do I adjust the linkage? I have a screw that has also came loose but can not find were it goes?

|i just traded a 94 for a 98 f 150..the linkage is messed up!! it wont go in reverse?? try'd to change it by hand underneath but still only drive? when i put it in park it still seems to wanna be in drive? could they have changed the linkage an its maybe to long? |

|How do you replace the trans shift lever for a 2000 Ford Expedition. The plastic end for the Automatic Overdrive broke off. Ford part # SW-5713 cost $90 and RockAuto cost $47.89.|
|I had the same problem with my 1998 Ford Expedition, there was a lot of free play on the shift gear handle and therefore had trouble finding the gears, all of them. I looked under the the steering wheel or steering column (by the top of the brake pedal) and found that there were two screws loose, about to fall off actually, tighten both of them up and now is as good as when I drove it off the lot. Hope this helps. |
|I had the same problem as mark on my 1994 ford F150. It was the 2 screws he mentioned. I tightened them and it's good as new. Thanks 4 the heads-up!|

|Had the same problem with a 2000 Ford F150 found one screw on the floor did'nt know what it went to, after reading the replys I figured it out.Tightened them and No more problem Thanks Guys |

Really helped us out , I we had just changed the transmission fluid and had the truck up on jacks. When I had lowered the truck the star bolt as mentioned above must have came out. I noticed the bolt on the floor right after the change and asked my fiancee if she knew where the bolt came from. We were freaked, after finding the above post we went out and fixed the placed mentioned, the bolt fit. (Al-tho we had to use an Allen wrench).
*TIP* Make sure you set the E-break, then shift the vehicle into N, make sure it's N by releasing the break and making sure the vehicle does not try to move if it's in N you may proceed. Now with the vehicle is in N reach up in the tight spot, Mark mentioned by the E Break, up towards the top there should be a few other screws with a star head, it should be in with those, look for a black hole missing a bolt.

|Hey guys thanks for this thread.....I have a 97 F-150 and was having the same problem. My 16 year old daughter came home and said she could not always get the truck into park and was having to put it in neutral to get it to start after reading this I went out found one star head screw laying on the edge of the floor mat. I put the truck into neutral as stated above after confirming that the e-brake was pulled and working. I had to put the screw in the hole with my right hand and then reach up with my left and move the gear shift around until the screw lined up properly and screwed in freely. Do not force or cross thread the screw. If you move the shifter around some it will go in easily with your fingers then just tighten up with a 1/4 inch ratchet. Good luck and just be careful and make sure you chock your wheels and or put the E brake on. Easy to get in and get to but gotta have a crane to pull ya back of from under that dang dashboard.|

|I'm having problem with my 99 f150. It will not go out of park. I put my entire weight on the lever audit wouldn't budge. But also all at the same time my windshield wipers and my windows do not work.|

|Had this same problem on my 2000 expedition and sure enough the bolts were loose. Tightened them up and its like brand new.|
