The whole dash needs to be removed, If the vehicle has AC, the freon needs to be evacuated, do to the fact that the heating/ cooling unit is removed as a whole unit, then the unit is split to access the heater core. When unit is put back in and dash replaced, the ac needs to be recharged when done.

The only answer i have for fixing it is put it in the shop.. BUT do want to let you know that we have a 02 ford f-150 and we spent close to $1000 replacing heater core in the ford dealership shop in 2008 , , exactly 1yr and 5 days after replacing it, , it went out again.. seems to be a problem w/ this truck. Our truck has about 102, 000 miles on it, so it's not as if it is driven into the ground if ya know what i mean.

The heater core in 1999 Ford F150's are lemons. Replacing the 4th one now on mine. Ford won't honor their replacement part warranty but one time either. Seems if you replace a part with a bad part you should honor fixing it. You might be better off to use after market heater cores since the original Ford part is faulty.

I have a 97 F150 and my heater core blew on me....and good!!!!! I bypassed mine by looping the heater hoses under the hood. Spring is here and it's warmer now....don't need the heat...need the time until it's cold again to either save up and have a shop do it, or actually do it myself. If I do do it myself, I might need until fall to actually finish the job!!!!! I dread it for sure!
