| 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Stuck In 4 Wheel High - Ford-Explorer Sport Trac |
| 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Stuck In 4 Wheel HighI have a 2002 Sport Trac stuck in 4 wheel high. This happened about a week ago. At that time I pulled all fuses ant they were good. I reinserted all fuses and problem solved. Last night, same problem occured. All fuses are still good. 4 WD light on dash is off, but vehicle is still in 4WD. I tried switching between 2WD and 4 WD while in neutral several times and also backing up with no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks, John

| Either the 4X4 control module Ford Part 1L54-7H417-AE or AC or AD dependent on your year and VIN in the kick panel on the passenger side is bad or most likely the motor that controls the shifting in the transfer case. There is an excellent HOW TO REPAIR thread in myexplorerforums. Or this TSB * TSB #041810 -- 4X4 NOT ENGAGING OR INTERMITTENT 4X4 ENGAGEMENT - VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 4/1/2004. *TT (NHTSA ID #10013112, JANUARY 01 2004) |
| My daughter's 2002 Sport Trac does not engage into 4High or 4Low. I have been told the control module is behind the kick panel and also on the transfer case. I have also been told it is behind the radio (center console). I have not found it anywhere. The dealer is even confused. Does anyone know where the selector module actuator is located? Thx! Bill |

| My 2002 Sport Trac does not engage into 4High or 4Low. I have been told that it is the transfer case motor. Does anyone know if that could be the problem or could it be something else? |

| @ ryan the 4x4 control module is behind the glove box it is sittin on a little metal bracket with 2 small 7mm bolts you will need a swivel and the smallest socket wrench you have got. |
901/11/11 13:32Ben Walters(Store Mgr. American Tire(Goodyear)) | I have a 2002 Sport Trac and my 4x4 won't engage after several hrs of diag I found my control module was trying to engage(heard a clicking sound in rf kick panel). I then felt the actuator motor(located on transfer case) wasn't responding. I replaced it and it now works properly. I took my old motor and open it and it was locked up. I cleaned the armature with emery cloth and use dielectric grease on ends of the shaft gingerly and put it back together and it works. I feel the motor gets locked up and needs cleaned or replaced. motor part # FMC1L5Z7G360B. Good luck to u all. If u want email me @ atc17@jenningstire.com Ben |

Sounds like the transfer case motor all right, little buggers go out often. |

This is a lot cheaper than the dealer:deleted... (Don't know why I can't post this link below, FAQ says you get extra points for posting relevant links.) |
