| sun visor replacement on drivers side I am looking for a replacement part of the sun visor on the drivers side it broke from the corner where the visor goes up and down. Can anyone tell me where I can get the replacement part?Thank you |
#107/19/09 15:28theresa luna | I'm sorry I left off the year and model, it is a 2005 Ford Explorer Thanks again. |
| If you find it. let me know! I have look everywhere. This my third sun visor that breaks from the support, but the first two times were under warranty. This is a design problem from factory, but they wont admit that. The worst thing is that Ford do not sell that little plastic thing, that should not be more than $10, but the whole sun visor for about $70. I'm in part B of my plan, a junk yard, but they also want to sell the whole piece, for about 40, which is no much of a savings. I read the part for the expedition works as well. |
| The dealer just told me the same thing. The whole sun visor must be replaced for $80. Outragious! |
#409/02/09 01:12Trevor (Australia) | You find $70 & 80 outragious!!! if you convert that to $au then it should only be $110.00 max Here in Australia the Ford Dealer wants $407.70 for the passenger sun visor and will only sell it complete. Spare a thought for for me |
#509/08/09 22:54Raul Sciaky | Third visor for me, too. What a rip. I sent a letter to Ford saying they could have spent $200 more per car and had a far higher quality interior. |
| My visor went too and they wouldn't replace it under warranty - said it was "trim". Idiots. If they only realised these little things can add up to "I'm not buying a ford next time". I am having trouble finding a replacement visor online. |
| My visor on the driver side just broke also, then to ford and they told me i had to buy the whole visor and bracket for $102. someone had to make this one pieces, sounds like there is a damand for it. |
| look in junkers they may ask you for $20. |
| I'm trying to find a replacement advisor for my Escape Hybrid. The plastic cracked where it bolts to the vehicle. I tried to glue it with epoxy twice-- with 2 different epoxies, but the plastic is made of some sort of epoxy-proof material. Quite impressive, actually. It must be made of the same plastic they use to make the epoxy container cap. If anyone knows where to get such replacement parts, I'd love to know. Thanks! |
| so I am not the only one having this issue. My dealer says $120.00 for the visor. what a joke. not much in junk yards either. and they wonder why people are not buying fords. |
#1110/08/09 20:29Honeymuffin | They have them on ebay. Just search for Ford Explorer sun visor. There's alot to pick from. It looks like you have to buy the whole thing as well, but you can get them dirt cheap compared to dealer prices. Just make sure you ask the seller if it has the plastic mounting pieces, so you know you are getting what you want. I have shopped on ebay for years. You can find everything there at better prices. |
| 3rd for me as well on my 2004 Explorer. The parts guy at Ford knocked it down to $80 US. If you a nice they may reduce the price for you as well. The entire visor must be replaced. Crappy design! Don't get me going cuz the rear hatch exterior plastic large mold is cracked as well!!!! |
| I gave up trying, so I made my own hardware for the visors ('both' broke on my 2005 Explorer), and it didn't cost me a thing. I'm not one of those highly paid geniuses that design parts for Ford. Just a weekend handyman. I used a piece of scrap aluminum I had laying around, and cut and shaped 3 pieces for each visor and screwed them together, installed them, and they work great!. They'll last longer than the vehicle will. WHY CAN'T 'FORD' DESIGNERS AND ENGINEERS COME UP WITH THIS SIMPLE FIX!!!!!!!! I'M available if they need MY help! |
#1404/14/10 09:04christina | My 2004 ford explorer visor also CRACKED and have been unable to fix.. I just need a plastic thingy not the whole darn thing the dealership here said 99.00 plus taxes and instalation ... ridiculous poor customer service also... why the heck do they have warranties on these cars if they wont fix anything? Trying to fix it myself and have been trying to visual from DONs ingenious but i cant picture it in my head. Not that handy! |
#1508/24/10 00:29ShellBell | AGH!! I just had this problem too on my 2008 Explorer Sport Track (the visor mirror broke, the light won't shut off, no replacement)! I want to just buy a new visor with NO MIRROR. Do they exist? I used duck tape for now, but am very embarressed that my new truck has duck tape. This is my first American car and I love my truck, but if this type of junk starts happening trade in will occur!! |
#1609/06/10 16:27New Toyota Owner | I am now on my 3rd driver's side visor. Unbelievable how the poor designs are allowed to continue, especially since this is such a safety issue. Toyotas for me from now on. No pride in their product. |
#1709/24/10 21:01Fed up with Ford | I had this problem with my 2004 XLT. This was right after the cracked hatch appeared on the back of the car. No pride in their product is right -- this thing is a design flaw nightmare end-to-end. I'm with "new toyota owner" -- my next car will definitely not be a Ford. |
| I know the dealership sun visors from Ford are expensive, going over $200 and up. I've been using after-market parts from car-stuff.com on which those visors cost only $80. Check them out if it is to your liking. |
#1910/05/10 23:19Mark Radmilovich | Same here ! My passenger side's visor's plastic mounting piece exploded and the driver's side is cracked and going quick. My dealer rep. tried to get me to pay over $200 to replace them both. With so many people having this problem, Ford needs to give free replacements. |
#2010/06/10 14:38Franklin | I have the same problem with my 2004 explorer. Passenger side mount for the sun visor is all cracked into pieces-- the driver's side will go soon. How can we complain collectively so Ford will take note and hopefully do something |
| Just happened to me today. Passenger side crumpled. Driver side is cracked. I took a peice of metal and used the exsisting hole and screw to hold the visor rod in place. Works just fine. Does not look the best, but when visor is up against the roof, you can't even see it. Cheaper than 80$ too. Just cost me about 5 minutes to find a peice of scrap metal and screw it in place. |
| My 2004 Eddie Bauer Explorer now has two visors that are not usable. The driver's seat visor cracked and fell while driving about 2 years ago and the passenger one just cracked and crumbled into pieces last week. I have been able to shove the driver's side one back up and it stays pretty good, but the other one is currently duck taped and keeps falling down. Extremely frustrating that there is no replacement piece out there, as I am reading forum after forum on this defective piece! Also, the driver's side seat warmer is stuck on and has not been off for a year now...makes for a comfortable drive in winter, not in 100 plus temperatures in the summer! Back panel is also cracked under the rear window panel, which I am finding is another common complaint on these Fords. |
| My wife's 05 Explorer visor backet dissintegrated on the drivers side and upon inspection by me the passenger side is not far behind. The worst thing is that the driverside just fell while she was driving down the highway. Sounds like grounds for a class action suit here as this could be a life safety issue. On another note, the trim panel right below the tailgate window is cracked. The dealer says to bad.... I've come to notice driving around 35% of all the explorers I see have the same problem |
| Last week the drivers side sunvisor on my 2004 ford explorer fell down while I was driving and was just hanging by a black electric cord in front of me and obstructing my vision. It was a dangerous situation and I had to drive with one hand while holding up the visor with the other hand. The small plastic part that anchors the visor just crumbled into several pieces. Today at a local Ford parts shop the replacement visor was quoted as $108 plus $129 service charge to install it. I don't need the whole visor-- just the small plastic part that screws in!! But not available?? I'm not a handyman. Any suggestions? |
