I have the same question, same situation.
Hello to All,
I've been searching all over the internet and I need some advise for buying Car Roof Racks and I found this sites eCarRoofRacks.com and it gives me more information and different style in Car Roof Racks.
Can you give me some tips in how to choose a Car Roof Racks in my car.
to remove 2002 explorer roof rack, go to the back corners supports and find the black plastic covers on inside area. there is a space in it and beside that there is a is a tab. bend or push the tab in to release the plastic cover, and the plastic cover will pry off (gently). Once this cover is off u will see the 2 hex screws which hold it to roof. The side supports are screwed in just like this also. w/ a flathead screwdriver, gently Pry the side plastic covers off the middle supports to access hex screws. The front has plastic covers which hide the front screws too. These covers are held in place by 2 columns which slide into the slotted holes behind them. Once u get the back ones off, the above will make more sense and u will be able to see how the design is.
The 2011 Ford Expedition will not meet the clearance in my garage at work, an older building.
The dealer told me that if it were removed the roof would need body work to fill in the holes and the roof would need to be repainted.
On my 1997 Expedition I was able to easily remove the horizontal bars they slid out of the roof tracks and that solved my problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Steve-O hit right on the money. I got the cross bars OK but without his say so I wouldn't have had the courage to go after the side rails. They came off easy. Thanks!
