98 Ford Explorer parking brake switch

Hi all,

In order to pass VA inspection, I need the parking brake light on the dash to work when the parking brake is on. I know the light on the dash is working becuase it flashes on when I start the car.

So I assumed it was the parking brake switch. This was confirmed when I jiggled the switch and the light would work for 3-4 times (pressing the brake and releasing it).

I took the switch out (unbolted and unplugged it) and the switch looks fine. When I plugged it in again, the dash light didn't work at all, no matter how I jiggled it.

Question: do you think this is a switch problem or will some electrical contact cleaner work? I know a new switch costs only $11, but I don't see any corrosion on the switch, so I'm thinking it's a connection problem.

What do y'all think?
