Hi, I have a 93' Explorer v-6, with a 5sp manual trans. 163, 000mi. I am the 2nd owner and knew the first owner well and know the vehicle was well taken care of. It has been running fine, and then it started pinging bad, so I put a bottle of octane boaster in a full tank of gas and that did'nt help. So then I put a bottle of lead substitute in a tank of gas. The pining stopped. I went on a trip (325mi) and filled up again , then after 25mi or so I was getting on the freeway and when accelerating it stated cutting out and bogging down. I let off and then accelerated again and it cut out a little but not as bad. Once on the freeway it fan a little sluggish and cut out a little, then it seamed to clear up and ran ok, when I got off the freeway after about 3mi It died at the end of the exit ramp. It started up again fine but cut out a little then ran ok, and has continued to do this. Also the check engine light came on and is still on. Could I have damaged the engine by putting lead substitute in a motor made for unleaded fuel? Or possibly fouled out the oxygen sensor? Any other things I could have damaged or problems I may have created that you know of please point them out. THANK YOU VERY MUCH DEMPSEY
