Is my travel trailer too big too pull with my 98 Eddie Bauer 5.0 AWD? Having a difficult time reaching hwy speeds and maintaining those speeds. Have done all the required maintainence on this vehicle and just replaced two catalytic converters thinking they were plugged and made almost no differenc. Any suggestions and or pointers on this problem would be greatly appreciated, btw the camper weighs approx 4000lbs and using an equalizing hitch required for trailer towing.

You shouldn't have any problem, seeing as how thats not much more than what i pull. I pull about 3500 lbs of loam each spring in my trailer (max Capacity is 3000) with my 03 Explorer XLT in 4*4 auto, and i have to pull up a grade of about 20%. I wouldn't even call it straining the truck, it only takes about 3000 RPM to get our of there. i have a 4.6L V6, not sure how many horses it's cranking, but it's definetley adequate.

I have a 6 cylinder Dodge Van that we have been using to pull my 1700 pound camper. Now, we find that the Van has been too small to do this and it's rear-end is falling out due to it. We decided to trade in the small car and find a vehicle that will pull the camper. What type of vehicle should we use? What is the best size/style? My husband wants to go with a SUV, but I'm not sure about that, arn't they gas hogs? Are they big enough to pull a camper like my husband says, seeing they are V-8's? What do you think? Please let me know asap, as my husband wants to go out today to look for a suitable vehicle. Thanks!
