Greetings from Australia. I live on North Stradbroke Island just off Brisbane in Queensland. I need a bit of advise. found you on the net. My father just bought a 1997 Explorer today. He got it home and found that the interior lights front and back (Not the map lights) are on all the time. He has looked but can not work out what to do, the book says you turn them off on the dimmer switch but that does not seem to work. Could you offer any suggestions, poor old bugger, I can't help him as he lives on the mainland and I can not get over to have a look. any advise will be gratefully received, plse e-mail me.

ONE OF THE DOOR LATCH DOME LAMP SENSORS IS BUSTEDSOMETIMES LUBRICANT IN THE LATCH WILL HELP (10%) Turn Ign. Key ON but do not start. Wait 20 seconds Open Each door, check for CHIME. The one that wont chime is the suspect. Include the rear GLASS and rear liftgate as well; they have sensors in the LATCHes too. Its NOT a tradition Close-to-ground circuit; its actually two wires, closed-on-door/glass closed opening door panels is a bit of labour, short the wires and then open/close one other door and the GEM will reset the condition; then you can tape up the connection to the bad switch NEW DOOR LATCH is only fix solution $109 CDN here and it was a 1999 2Dr Sport Explorer on the passenger side which I decided I do without dome light sensor.

My 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer dome light console has fallen about 1/2" on the forward end. How do I replace the clips and how do I get to them?

Had a problem with interior lights not turning off.Problem was the rear hatch not being closed tight enough.Close the door harder and out goes the lights.

Also you might want to check the interior light switch to make sure it is not push all the way up. it turns on the dome and rear light when all the doors are closed. took me an hour to figure that out.
