John, Did you ever get any answers to your problem? I have a 2005 Expedition and the steering has become very diffcult. It is still drivable but it's clear that the power steering is no longer assiting turning the wheels. I have plenty of fluid, the teering shaft looks find so I'm thinking the pump has gone bad. No fluid loss what so ever so it can't be a leak.

was driving down the road and heard a real bad noise, almost a grinding noise. i notice that when i turn my wheel it gets worse. I can't determine where the sound is coming from but i am leaking a fluid that looks and smells like power steering fluid. is there a way to tell if my pump is going out? its a 2004 XLT gauges look good and no idiot light is on.
