I put in semi-synthetic oil in my 2008 Escape last week, and now the dash board is displaying "5% oil life, change soon". What did I do wrong and do I need to get another oil change already?
You need to reset the the oil change setting on the dash information panel. It registers in percentage of miles left before an oil change is needed. After so many miles it will tell you Change oil Now. When you change the oil you have to reset the oil indication back to 0% and it will start over until the next oil change is needed.
at what mileage should i change transmission fluid on 2004 ford escape?
408/27/09 18:24James Hughes | charles (67.35.252.104) - Mon Jul 21 10:32:20 2008 How does one change the transmission filter in a 2005 ford escape 2wd 3.0 engine? You have to remove the transmission to change it. Around $500.00-$600.00 dollars, not including fluid or gaskets. It's located inside the transmission, so they have to crack it open. Just wait till your alternator goes out due to heat from the exhaust system and from mud being splashed on it as it is located under and behind the front left tire. Cost to replace? around $300.00 for the alternator, and $250.00 - $400.00 for them to remove the wheel assembly, brake assembly, and transaxle to replace it. Trade it in on a KIA or a Toyota, but get rid of it ASAP. P.S. Your transmission is likely going to die, as thousands of others have had problems with them, costs Over $3000.00 to replace. |
I have a 2009 Ford Escape with 18, 000 miles. I had the motor oil changed and the service mechanic checked the transmission fluid and found it was dark black, not pink. Am I about to have transmission probloms? I have always seen transmission fluid as pink. Has Ford provided a special transmission fluid that's black like used motor oil or what? Service manual says to change the transmission fluid at 60, 000 miles per the maintenance manual.
My brand new 2009 Ford Escape (15, 000 KM) also has black transmission fluid. We are trying to fight it with Ford because we just received a notice today stating that we have to take the car in to "reprogram the Powertrain Control Module to the latest calibration" Any ideas for me?
I too have a 09 Ford Escape. Got the transmission reprogrammed over the weekend per the letter that was sent to me. some months ago, my dealership also told me to change my transmission oil because he said it was dirty. I was at about 29, 000 miles. I held off on it at the time because I needed to save money. a few weeks later I took it to another dealership out of convenience to get my transmission oil changed. this 2nd dealership called me back later and told me i dont need it done yet. the manual says 60k for the first change. they told me the car uses a special kind of transmission fluid, its more expensive and the color is okay. the guys told me that it may be possible the other dealership just recommended it because most other cars need to be changed at 30k miles. they dont bother checking into the requirements for each car specifically. i really dont trust dealerships... im trying to get a hold of new fluid and see what the deal is. if anyone can beat me to it, or know anything else, let me know as well. i dont want to waste 170-200 on this when i dont need to for a few more years (per owner's manual). Also, the dealership i took my car to this past weekend suggested i change my fuel filter. $74.95. i held off on it. and per owner's manual, the 09 ford escape has a lifetime fuel filter that doesnt need changing. so just FYI in case they try to take advantage of you.
hey about the trans fluid, check this out on page 2 of the link. 21138 AUTO TRANS - MERCON LV FLUID COLOR SOME 2008-2010 VEHICLES, EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FACTORY FILLED WITH MERCON LV FLUID (PART # XT-10- QLV), MAY EXHIBIT DARK COLORED TRANS FLUID THAT MAY LOOK BURNT IN APPEARANCE. THIS IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS FLUID AND WILL NOT AFFECT TRANSMISSION FUNCTION OR DURABILITY. THE MERCON LV FLUID IS A DEEP RED COLOR, COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL MERCON V BRIGHT RED FLUID, AND THE COLOR NATURALLY DARKENS AT RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE. IN SOME CASES, THE FLUID MAY APPEAR TO HAVE A GREEN TINT DUE TO DYE USED TO CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT. TRANS FLUID COLOR SHOULD NOT BE USED AS SOLE INDICATOR FOR TRANSMISSION REPAIRS. REFER TO THE CORRECT VEHICLE AND MODEL YEAR WORKSHOP MANUAL AND/OR MAINTENANCE GUIDE FOR DIAGNOSTICS, REPAIRS, AND/OR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE.
I have a problem with this alternator. I cant figure what was it.
1011/19/10 17:13Steve Bumstead | Does my 2008 3.0L. Ford Escape have a serviceable transmission filter? |
Hi there, does anyone know what type of fluid goes into the transmission? My dad doesn't live in US/Canada and he doesn't have the owner's manual to find out. He is due to change it but doesn't know what type of fluid/oil goes there. If you have any suggestions let me know. Thanks.
2005 Escape 4 cyl, automatic, bought new, never towed with it, no mountain driving, had dealer change trans fluid at 30, 000 and 60, 000 miles; torque converter went at 68, 000 miles, wiped out the trans.Out of warranty. Transmission shop mechanic said this converter and trans has been an ongoing Ford problem since the late 1990's, when it first appeared in Mercury Mystique, too small for vehicle's weight. Anybody know of technical service bulletin or silent recall? Anybody had a similar torque converter problem?
just thought id weight in on my personal experience with them, we have (4) 2005 escape xls 4cly AWD that we use almost everday doing delivery in vermont, were running between 260k too 309k miles on them with all original engine and tranny, and the trans has never been serviced only checked for fluid lvl, and it is a dark color also, normaly id say it was dirty looking. but ive heard thats normal for them. so far the only ones weve had issues with is the v6 models we junked 2 of them cause we got sick of replaceing the transmission. also too add these trucks have been run hard an average 200 too 400 miles a day, and not very well maintained as with most fleet vehicles. one even went over 36k miles without an oil change and its still running strong lol
