Ford-Escape - cold feet

On our 2008 Escape, when the heater air flow is directed to the vents in the dash there is good air flow. But when I push the button for air flow to the floor, there is a noticable air flow restriction noise, a lot more air comes out of the small side window defrost vents, and very little warm air comes out the floor vent; not enough to keep feet warm. There is perhaps four times more air coming out the side window defrost vents than to the floor. This is especially noticable when the fan speed is turned way up. I'ts almost like a flapper door to direct heat to the floor is not opening. This is something you might not notice if you don't usually prefer heat to the floor.

Inside the dash is a blend door motor, which is what changes the direction of air flow. If it gets broken or jammed it may only work in one position.

Let me know how it goes. I have a 2009 Escape with the exact same issue described by Bert.

And the fun begins. The dealership finds nothing wrong with it of course. They say it is normal for it to blow out the side mirror defrost vent like that. Right. Funny no other car I have ever had acted or sounded like it was on defrost when it was on floor..... It's going to be cold feet for many years to come apparently. Aargghh. And I thought getting a newer vehicle was going to make life easier. Hah! : )
