We have this same problem, and it seems to only happen on the weekends and at night... When we are at home, and therefore the remote is in close proximity.
We are guessing that the remote has something to do with it, like a short in the remote, or possibly a dying battery (the battery hasn't been replaced in 6+ years). We're going to replace the battery and see it it keeps happening.
Just went through the random alarm sounding routine. Had to replace 2 door latches. Was wondering how many other owners have experienced this.
Just bought a 2006 Ford Escape, and the alarm keeps going off. Also, the door ajar light keeps going off inside the car. Guess the car thinks that someone is opening the door and the alarm goes off. Taking it in this afternoon to have somebody check it.

"'06 Escape Door Ajar Alarm"
We've been having this problem for ovber a year. VERY FRUSTRATING! Was told to squirt WD-40 into each door latch. Doesn't really help. Anybody have any working solution?
We are having the same problem and was told the WD-40 thing too, which didn't help. I also read it could be the door ajar light switch so we are going to investigate this next.
"2005 Escape possible fix to faulty alarm"
I researched this on the internet for several hours and came up with a possible fix. At least for perimeter alarms with no possible cause (like door ajar). I found that the alarm could be caused by the hood switch. I unplugged the switch under the front hood and the problem was solved.
