Ford-Escape - 2003 Ford Escape Key will not turn in ignition

One minute my key was working ok, next minute it would not turn in the ignition. Steering wheel not the cause. Any ideas? Had to have it towed the the Ford Dealer today, they indicated it may be one of the tumblers out of place.

My 2003 Esape did the same thing last night. My boyfriend got it started by pushing in on the ignition and pulling up on the shifter at the same time. I think you should read all the posts in the Ford Focus Forum. There are several posts with the same problem with the Focus's ignition cylinder and several said to tap on the key with a hammer or screwdriver head. Hope that helps.

If you have an automatic, make sure that the gear shift is LOCKED in place in park or you won't be able to start it. This has happened a few times to us. The gear shift LOOKS like it is in park, but we pushed it forward a tiny bit and heard it click into park.

Mine does exactly the same thing. I have to jerk the steering wheel to the left then turn the key. Works (nearly) every time..

I recently put a spare on my 2oo1 chrysler cirrus. The anti lock brake system is working and shows that it is on when driving car. Today i tried to start car to go fix the spare, and the ignition will not start. Could this be the spare?any help would be greatly appreciated. RC

i advice everyone to sell their pos as soon as possible. in the past year mines crumbled. ive spent about 300 on repairs a month and nothing seems to be getting better. i fix my engine mounts, then my spark plugs need fixing, i fix that, then i need an alignment, i fix that now it makesa funny noise when it starts, and NOW...it wont start. ford sucks and i couldnt be happier with them going out of business. with all the money ive spent putting in this thing i couldve purchased a benz in the beginning! my key absolutely will not turn out of no where. its been an hour anda half of me trying rightnow and not even a budge. i have an 800 dollar rent payment due along with nymo cable food etc! what the hell. i refuse to pay so much money to get this thing fixed again...and beyond refusing i cant afford it! i'm going to have an awesome walk to work and home today....in the sleet. WOOHOO!!! thanks ford.enough rambling...ive got a long walk ahead of me this morning.

Some 2002+ Fords will not turn the ignition or move from park when the brake light switch goes out (which is usually located in the back of the brake pedal). It's an annoying but understandable safety feature.

FORD KEY and START PROBLEMSA year ago i had to have a new key made and programmed. Ever since then my perfectly running suv has gone to ! First the key was stuck in the iginition for months. Ford refused to admit to any mistake. To get the key out another ford place said to hold the key and with another hand hold the spot where the key goes in so it won't move and wiggle it out. Sure enough it came right out. For one reason or another it won't turn over to start the car. Could this be caused by the defective key? I've replaced a lot on my car including a new fuel pump. hope this helps
