Hello, I have a 97 Ford Contour and the fan blower switch will not work on the Hi setting (other 3 work fine). I've searched for a blown fuse but can't find where it is. Any thoughts or knowledge? thanks.

Had this happen to my 98 Contour. Ford issued a recall in Oct 1999 for this situation. The "...Heater Blower Resistor may develop increased resistance which could potentially prevent the heater blower from operating on some speeds." Mine also worked on every setting except high. Ford replaced this part and it worked fine afterwards. I seem to recall I had to have this fixed again later, but can't find the receipt. If you haven't had this fixed already, you should be able to replace the heater blower resistor to fix. My manual shows it's located in the heater unit, and can be pried out after removing the heater blower motor. The blower motor is under the dash on the passenger side. Steps: 1) Disconnect negative battery cable. 2) Disable the airbag system. (Before proceeding, wait a minimum of 15 minutes to allow the airbag capacitor to discharge as a precaution against accidental firing.) 3) Release 4 clips (by pulling them out) securing the passenger side footwell upper trim panel. 4) Disconnect the motor's electrical connector. 5) Lift the motor's retaining lug slightly, twist the motor counterclockwise about 30 degrees, then remove the assembly. 6) Remove the motor control resistor by sliding a slim screwdriver into the slot provided in one end. Press the screwdriver in approx. 1/4" against spring pressure, and pry the resistor out. Disclaimer: I make no warranties or guarantees for use of this advice or procedure. You accept all liability. Use at your own risk, or have a qualified mechanic perform the work if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. Thanks, Joe

I have a 1996 Ford Contour, I have a blower problem, the blower does not work on high, very little air. I read the fix from Joe on removing the blower and replacing the resistor, I can not get the blower motor to release, I think I found the retaining lug but when i lift it I still can not get the blower motor to release so I can remove it.

Can anyone tell me if the 98 Ford Contour has a " A/C Orifice Tube" in it? I bought one and trying to replace the old one, but looking at the system I can't see where it would go. Book doesn't all for one but the guys at the Auto store says it should have one. Thx WJohnson

AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain 1995 through 1998 model year Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique vehicles built from July 1, 1995 through December 31, 1997. REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM In some of the affected vehicles, the blower switch or resistor may develop increased resistance which could potentially prevent the blower from operating on some speeds.
