Josh, you didn't mention how it started but I have a smaller-scale problem with a Chevy S-10 that started when I struck & ran over a piece of tread that had just come off an 18-wheeler. The right tail/brake light always works but most of the time the right turn signal doesn't work. (On VERY rare occasions it does.) If either your front or rear same-side blinker doesn't work, it automatically prevents the "good end" and your dashboard turn indicator from working. I think this is meant to be a fail-safe so that you KNOW something is wrong.
I'd look for a short in the wiring somewhere behind where the wires for the rear of the vehicle split off from the rest of the wiring harness. If you don't find it there, start working toward the front. Most people don't want to fool with wiring problems because they can be extremely hard to locate & resolve. Commercial repair will probably be expensive but your local junior college might have an auto repair class that would do the work affordably IF you can afford to be without the vehicle for a while.
Best regards,
Elizabeth
