i have a 1988 ford bronco 4x4 with auto tranny, and a 351 motor. when it runs it does fine runs great, but it'll warm up to operating temp, and then if you dont stay into the gas then it'll die...it acts like its running out of gas, and the smell is like raw gas, it has me stumped, i have been told it may be the fuel pump but when i turn the key you can hear it turn on...please any suggestions?

You may have already figured this out.....but just in case. I had a 1992 with the exact same symptoms. One of the sensors needed to be replaced.
