Dodge-Stratus - 2000 Dodge Stratus 2.5 engine not firing
Ed Forman (205.188.117.68) - Sun Nov 23 01:32:39 2008
I have a 2000 Dodge Sratus with a 2.5 engine. I am not getting any fire to the plugs. I put a code reader on it and it doesn't show and errors. The check engine light is not on. I would like to have a wiring diagram for the ignition system for this car. I have a Haynes manual for the car but it does not have a wiring diagram. Maybe someone can tell me my problem. Thanks, Ed Forman

My wife's 2000 Dodge Stratus has a similar problem. Went to start it one morning and no cranking at all with turning the ignition key. Lights, wipers, dash work fine. After-market radio does not work. Blew 4 20 amp fuses in a row (also FUSE 8 IGN/FUEL STARTER). Took it to the dealer and they say it's a short in the starter. Fingers crossed they're right . . .

If fuse #8 blows when starter turns just a bit, it is the starter solenoid. Replace the starter/solenoid combo, and you will be set. I just went through this with our '98 Breeze 2.4L. If you put in a 30A fuse, it may buy you some time (measured in weeks), or get you out of a jam, but the problem will get worse, blowing even the 30A. Replacing fuses with larger ones is always a bad idea anyway.
