Radiator fan operates only when ac or defroster is turned on. High engine temperature doesn't cause fan to start.Transmission goes to "limp mode" when engine is first started. It shifts correctly once the engine is shut off for a brief period of time.

I typed my e-mail address wrong on the subject of the radiator fan and transmission problem. Please respond to this one.

I can't help you as far as your transmission is concerned, but I have suggestions for your cooling system woes. I have owned(and still own one) three Dodge Spirits, and have learned from Dodge mechanics that yours is a common problem. One possiility is a faulty radiator fan relay. It mounts on the LH inner fender, and costs about $50 to replace. It simply plugs into the small wiring harness. Another possibility is the temperature sensor fitting not being calibrated correctly. THis is not to be confused with the temperature sending unit, which simply operates the temp guage. Hope this info is helpful! Joel

If you have your car checked and serviced regularly, you can avoid some of these pitfalls. I would guess these problems are common to all auto motives and not Dodge alone. Is there a preferred type of fan that would reduce the cooling woes or is it something car owners simply have to live with?

Have a 1990 Dodge Spirit. Changed clutch and clutch cable and clutch still does not want to engage. Does sometimes but not all the time. Any clues?
