Hi Lila, On my previous car, ('92 Shadow America (2.2 tbi)) The best way to clear a code was to fix the problem based on the code reading (there is a semi-complicated trick involving key in ignition position to get the exact fault number (at end of this post)) and then unhook negative terminal on the battery for 15 minutes. The light should go off when you hook it back up and start the car. If you have remedied the problem and the light has stayed on, unhook the whole battery for the same amount of time.If after re-hooking the light comes back about 1-5 minutes after starting/running the car it means you have not remedied the fault.
Common Faults on 2.2's and 2.5's are the MAP sensor, TPS, and O2 Sensor. All fairly simple/cheap to fix. I recommend getting a hold of the Haynes manual for the car for a full walk through.
How to check a Shadow (or most late 80s/Early 90s Chryslers) Fault codes:
Turn the ignition key on, off, on, off, on. basically on 3 times in a row without starting the car. shortly after the check engine light goes off it will flash out the fault codes. The codes will be 2 digits long.
Examples: 3 flashes then 2 flashes will mean 32, 5 flashes then 5 flashes means 55. there will be a longer pause at the end of code. 55 is the end of codes code by the way.
