Dodge-Grand Caravan - power locks will not lock or unlock
Jeff K (24.74.170.243) - Sun Aug 19 20:42:18 2007
2005 Grand Caravan...power locks will not unlock or lock by either the remote or the door switch. I saw no fuse blown under the hood but could not ID the relay.

I had the same problem, but not till the car was 2 years old. Pull the OID fuse, count to five and put it back in. If that fixes your problem (temporarily), ask the dealer to look up the TSB that reflashes the body controller to an updated software level. Cost me $70, but no problems since (6+ weeks).

Like Bill says, pull the OID fuse and reset it. I've done this numerous times without a problem. I also discovered that the problem only occurs when I use the remote to LOCK the doors. If I manually lock the driver's door when I exit the van, I do not have the problem. Unlocking the doors with the remote has never caused the problem, only locking them with the remote.

My dodge caravan door locks stop working. I looked for the fuse but the book is vague on the location of the fuse or relay. I looked under the steering column but I could not find the box. Can anyone tell me what fuse or relay to pull to reset the system.

My 2005 caravan's power locks quit working. I've looked for the OID fuse, but cannot find it. All the fuses I've looked at have a number printed on them, I have no idea which one to unplug, wait for 5 seconds, then reinsert. Help!!!!

Look on under side of fuse box lid for markings for the fuses its there towards bottom left if you are standing on driver's side of the vehicle. Fuse box is under the hood on drivers side not inside of van.

Wayne - It's a 20 amp fuse in the middle on the left. Look at the top of the fuse box on the inside of the cover. You will see the diagram for which fuses are where.Thank you everyone! You just fixed my problem.

My Dodge Grand Caravan is a 2003. My front door locks work fine - it's just the two side rear doors that "try" to lock or unlock when you push the button = but it can't. So I found the IOD and in my van it is a 15 amp. Pulled it, waited, put it back. Still works the same as before. Any ideas?

YOU PEOPLE ROCK!!I have a 2005 Town and Country with the same problem. (Well, IT USED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT I FIXED IT! I FIXED IT!) Prior to google searching and finding this thread, I stopped at two car parts dealers and they looked at the situation. One suggested the fuse may be the problem, but neither store could identify which fuse. One place even tried to look it up in their reference materials...all to no avial. So per your suggestions, I pulled the 20 AMP IOD fuse, counted 5 seconds, plugged it in and now my locks work! Guess I can cancel that appointment at the dealership tomorrow! Is a recall in order? It is a safety issue in that I could not lock 1/2 the doors on my car, not while driving or parked. I'll investigate and let you know!

Im happy with the door lock solution but this car is crap. Its two years old and here is my list of failures.. please list yours.1. Both sliding door locks failed/lock mechanism broke 2. washer fluid pump failed 3. Washer fluid tank sprund leak 4. water pump failed 5. brakes wear unevenly and need replacing far too soon 6. frame came slightly bent causing it to be impossible to align vehicle correctly 7. computer needed update after 50K miles for some sort of transmission control issue. Wow a computer needed an update after 50K miles for this?? 8. Catalitic convertor failed 9. Heater resistor failed 2 times 10. Head gasket failed 11. Fuel gauge sending unit failed- always indicated 1/2 full- this was real fun when I stopped in the middle of the interstate 12. door locks will not lock- fixed by this forum 13. There are others I cant remember now. Oh by the way.. when purchased the dealer offered lifetime oil changes at no cost. Then, the dealer went bankrupt and the new dealer decided not to live up to the contract requirements of the old dealer. How nice. Granted all of my issues short of loss of free oil changes promised were covered under warranty. I have a personal relationship with the shuttle driver at my dealer Wow what a vehicle!! Im selling mine if any one needs one for parts. Thanks for letting me vent about this piece of crap.

This same thing is happening to me. We have a 2004 Ford Freestar. We have power sliding doors and they don't always lock/unlock. We have been pulling the lock up or pushing it down. Took it in and they say that it is needing some kind of motor because it is completely shot. It is a 500 dollar job ( of course @@) They don't realize it works some of the time. Would this work for my van as well? I don't think it needs a motor as the doors open.tia!

I have a 2006 caravan and the IOD fuse blew out and when I tried to replace it, the new fuse blew out immediately. I have an electrical short on the IOD circuit. The following systems do not work because I can not get a fuse into the IOD circuit without it blowing out immediately. The keyless entry remote, any button, the door locks don't work, even manually from the inside button, sliding power doors, both sides, power lift gate, factory radio / DVD player, visor lights, alarm to let you know your key is in the ignition when you open your door, and sometimes when I turn off the key off and take it out of the ignition some of the ignition dash lights will stay on { check engine light and oil light ect. }If I put the key back in and turn it off and on the dash lights will eventually go out. I have owned this van since it was brand new and no modifications of any kind have ever been done do it, 100% stock. My van is less than 1000 miles out of warranty 35, 850. Anyone ever had this problem or a similar one? Or know where I can get some help with this?

2005 Chrysler Town & Country TouringBought used 6 months ago, this is first issue. Pulling IOD for 10 seconds reset it perfectly. Is there any pattern I can expect - like this happening only in super hot weather or something? BTW, be sure power is off & key out of ignition when pulling any fuse.
Reply #30 Cathy (71.205.143.7) - Sun Aug 3 15:48:30 2008
When I talked to the dealership about the lock issue, they said to expect that my fix-it job will only be a temporary fix and that I needed upgraded software. ($89) I'm taking my chances. In the meantime I'll be looking up how to request a recall. Seems like if their computerized system needs an upgrade that that should be a recall deal as it is not wear and tear that is causing a malfunction. It is a design defect. dWAYNE R: About your minivan, google search "lemon law" and the name of the state you live in. See if that helps you out.

My 05 caravan just rolled over 44k miles and guess what. Yup the door locks stopped working. Having worked with computers for 20 plus years it smelled like a computer computer problem. Before I got into a huff and started to jumping thru flammimg hoops with the dealer I checked all the fuses and then disconnected the battery for a few minutes and hay, the locks started to work again. This fix was short lived as the problem came bach within a day. Tonight I've read allot of internet posts from 05 and 06 caravan owners with the same problem. There does not appear to be a solution to this problem. The problem appears after 44k miles. Some have had the BCM re-flashed and in some cases replaced and the problem comes back. It sounds like Dodge has a bug in their BCM firmware that has not been fixed. This bug gets out of warranty units back to the dealer for a snake oil computer flash fix that costs $130 a wack and it takes 10 minutes to do. Sounds like a cash cow to me. [If mileage greater than 44, 000 miles] [then door locks stop working.] There is a safety issue and a customer satisfaction issue here that needs to be fixed. I 'm looking forward to 54k miles when I need to re flash the computer so the transmission will shift. And at 64K miles when the buy new car light goes on. Yes I too have had the brake rotors, AC compressor and EGR replaced. It sounds like I've gotten off easy compaired to some. This is my 3rd caravan. I've had an 84, 91 and this 05 and this one is my last caravan. I really like this this caravan and the others I've owned but the cost of ownership is just too high and long term quality and reliability is just too low. My other car is a 1990 Honda CRX si with 230k miles. I see no reason why this car won't make it to 300k miles. Have you ever heard of a caravan living 300k miles? I don't think so. It's too bad that people, probably children will have to die before this is fixed. If anyone has a real fix for this door lock problem please drop me a line.

Short Temporary Fix: Pull IOD fuse. This can work for a good while the first time, gradually it'll progress to needing almost every time.Better Temporary Fix: Disassemble your key. The back pops off to replace the battery, there is a slot near the metal of the key to help pry it off. Once there, discharge yourself to the ground screw of an outlet then take out the small printed circuit board. The side under the buttons has little gold contact circles, put a small piece of tape over the one under the 'lock' button. Reassemble your key. This forces you to lock with the inside door button. Tape and hide a key on the underside of the van somewhere, you can lock the keys in much more easily, but at least the van will unlock now. Was requiring IOD reset almost every time, now it has easily gone 20 or 30 times lock/unlock without, but the key can only unlock, still far more convenient than resetting all the time. The problem and real fix.. Does appear to be related solely to locking with the key. Most likely there is a switch on each lock to let the computer see that the doors have locked. Over time they can get dirty or oxidize, just like a door/interior light switch can and not turn on the interior light when a door opens. When the computer tries to lock the door and doesn't see a good switch close, it likely disables itself so it doesn't burn up the door lock motors. This is a good thing, but if you have a dirty switch it means the door lock computer will disable itself often. Likely the BCM code update makes it more tolerant of a dirty switch, while not really addressing the real problem. Clean the contacts on all the door lock switches and you'll likely get 50K more miles of good service. Clean and use a good conductive contact lube on them and you'll likely never have a problem again with them. Note that this is cheap for DIY but labor intensive since you'll want to do every lock, and would be nuts at a dealer due to labor. I just taped the key for my mother's van. Next time I go up there I'll do the real fix, and report back on the results. This could also be related to the common automatic side door failure that she has, the wires for the side door locks/switches are in that wire bundle that is the likely failure point..
Reply #38 Alan (65.87.134.132) - Mon Aug 11 10:20:36 2008
Ok the tape on the key doesn't work for long. Appeared to work, but eventually the computer will still stop locking the doors.Very likely this is a bad switch or wiring, and the computer can't see that a door did lock, and stops trying to avoid burning out the motor. I'll do what is likely the real fix in a week or two, and report back..

We have a 2005 Grand Caravan and I was in an accident in 2006.They replaced the computer. Our problem is a bit more complex. when driving the lights flash off and on , the speedometer jumps all over the place, and the clock changes time. This did not happen until after the accident (NMF) and the dealer has told mne from the beginning that they can't find a problem and the warranty is no longer good. We are trying some of the suggestions all of you made... WISH US LUCK!!!

We had this problem with our 2005 Grand Caravan about 2 months ago. I thought it was a fuse since everything else on the vehicle worked. I pulled most of the fuses to check for blown ones since there was not one specifically labeled for the door locks. I must have pulled the IOD one because the locks worked then. Now, the locks are not working again, so I will pull that fuse again to see if it fixes the problem. If it gets to the point where it is happening every time you need to use the car, I will have to break down and pay for the real fix at the dealer. This should be a recall issue if it is happening to just about everyone who owns this type of vehicle. What a joke.

Same problem - 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. Over the weekend, the power door locks quit working. The remote would open the sliding doors and the back door but could not open the front doors with either the remote or manually.I had about decided it was a fuse but didn't see anything in the manual about the power door locks. Was about to do to the dealer (which I really didn't have time for) when I decided to do a search. Keyed in "Dodge Grand Caravan power door lock problem" and found this site. I had the same problem w/ my 2005 Caravan and used the fuse pull repair and also unhooked the battery cable. I was doing this every day.In searching for a solution I found a comment by a mechanic that a bad battery can cause this problem. Last week my battery was dead. I replaced the battery and have not had the problem in almost a week. I don't know if this is the solution, but it is worth having AutoZone or someone similar check the battery. They will do it for free. If the problem comes back, I'll let you know.

I tried this and it worked like a charm. My door locks quit working two weeks ago and it is so annoying to unlock the driver's door and then have to crawl through to unlock everyone else's doors. I went to a parts store and had fuses checked. Was told they were all still good. Called dealer and was told it would cost between $100 and $200 to replace power lock switches. This just happened to me tonight. I can't believe how many owners have had the same issue. The one thing I did notice is that the remote will still lock & unlock the rear door. Is this on a separate fuse? I too was taken for $150 dollars when I bought one of the oil change packages & the dealership changed ownership. So even though it is a Daimler Chrysler service contract no one will honer the contact. if the sound to be good to be true it probably is. I will never by another.

I quickly found the IOD fuse reset solution and also have read on many forums about the Body Control Module needing to be replaced if the problem keeps reoccurring. Well, the problem kept coming back, but after finding out that replacing the BCM would cost $750, I figured it was not worth it since I bought the vehicle for $13000, and it only takes 20 seconds to reset the IOD fuse when the problem occurred. There was no rhyme, reason, or pattern as to when the locks would fail, but it has actually been working good for about a month now. Except, my drivers side slider is no longer locking and unlocking with the rest of the doors. I reset the IOD fuse, but no luck. I read somewhere else that this could be because of the locking mechanism in that door. Can anyone else verify this?

Wrote note to Dodge explaining the problem and they replied that there is no problem known or a recall at this time. The pulling of the fuss lasted about a week and had to do it again. I hope we don't get stranded somewhere. Step up Dodge and do the right thing and fix them.

We have a 2005 Dodge Caravan with the same problem. Paid $70 for a mechanic who disconnected and reconnected the battery cable initially. That lasted for 2 months. Then, it happened once in August and has now happend 3 times in Sept. Glad to know about the fuse. We'll try that. I do think that it is related to when the door is locked with the key fob and not by the locks on the door. This is getting old!! Thanks for everYone's input!!!

05 grand caravan with 91k. Problem just occurred 9/20/08.No door locks work either inside or via key remote. Check IOD fuse-ok. Removed fuse several times waiting from 5 secs to 5 mins. No click heard when reinserting and No fix. Removed fuse again, disconnected the - (negative side) for 10 secs. Reinstalled negative cable, reseated 20 fuse-no click heard, and IT WORKS. Sending the email to Dodge next. Corpus Christi, TX

I just used this forum to fix this same problem on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. I don't think this is a problem. I think this is a safety built into the system on purpose. My locks stopped working after my six year old got a hold of the remote and locked and unlocked the doors several times really fast. I think it overloaded/overheated the system and it tripped to prevent damage. If this is a recurring issue for you, you should have it looked at. However, I believe this is an expected response to system stresses. Thank you forum people for helping me fix my problem. Carrollton, Tx

My 2005 Grand Caravan's locks stopped working by key remote or inside switch on 10/1/08. Checked all the fuses - nothing found blown. On 10/2/08, I found this thread, removed the fuse for 10 seconds and now the locks work! THANKS FOR SHARING, FOLKS! Now to give Dodge a piece of my mind, since I've already gone through 3 sliding door motors and now this.

Had the door lock problem. Fixed it by pulling the IOD fuse. The second time I tried this fix the locks fixed BUT the 6 CD changer in the radio stopped working. The mode change button used to switch from "AM" to "FM" to "CD". Now the "CD" has completely disappeared from the display. When I turn on the radio I can hear the cd changer cycling for about a minute and then it stops. There are cd's loaded but it won't play, eject, load...anything. It's like it disappeared. I pulled out the radio, unplugged it, let it sit out for a few minutes and reinstalled but there was no change. Any Ideas?

Ok, I been afflicted with the same old lock problem. IOD fuse reset seems to work. I think my problem may be the passenger side slider lock. It was worked on a few months ago and seems to take more force to lock. We'll see how it goes.

Can anyone help with this problem? 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport transmission stopped shifting gears. 8000 miles left on power train warranty. Took to dealer. They had it for most of a week. Said trans module was bad. Replaced. On way home engine light came on and speedometer was not working. Also shifting roughly and driver side manual door lock not working at all. All other manual locks work as does keyless remote. Dealer said computer did not hold its memory from the time they repaired until I picked it up. Now everything works fine except the driver side manual lock button. Dealer says nothing they did has anything to do with lock not working. I think it does since it was working when I took it in for repairs. Any suggestions on this one?

My '05 G/Caravan door locking switches failed at 84, 000 kms. A TSB has been issued for this model. Its to do with flashing the memory of the BCM. I took it to the dealer and they applied the flash. It did fix the locking from the passenger side and from the 20 mph feature. However, it cannot be locked/unlocked from the drivers side. I will try the IOD fuse removal and see if this has any effect.

We have a '05 Town and Country that has been having all of the same lock and door issues that the rest of you have posted. We've been doing the "pull the fuse" fix for about six months now. Sometimes every few days, sometimes several times a day. I've done a ton of research on the web and called a multitude of Chrysler dealerships to no avail. The Service Manager at my local dealer is very nice and sympathetic to our situation but unfortunately he doesn't know what to do. He said replacing the BCM is not a guarenteed fix and didn't recommend spending the $700+. Instead he gave me this number: 800-992-1997 for Chrysler Customer care. I was on the phone for about an hour (India call center first, then got escalated to US call center)and ultimately told that they would have to get back to me after speaking to the Service Manager that referred me.I also told the representative of this web site and the countless others where people are complaining of the same thing. She gave me a fax number that I'll be sending links to every blog and site referencing this problem. I'll report back when I have more info.

Same deal on a 05 Grand Caravan 51k. Just stopped working today. Pulling the IOD fuse worked. How long is certainly a guess. I sent a message to.. "www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ ivoq/" to file a complaint and Dodge asking questions by email about recalls. Of course none exists now but if enough people contact them about it... maybe something will be done. I am not holding my breath, just popping the hood to reset the computer to get the car working. I will say the car has been problem free for the first 51k/4.5 years (bought it in May 2004).

Same problems the rest of you are having with the locks but mine has sunk to a new low. We're just over 60k on our 2005 GC SXT. Backup lights, interior lights, door locks, right side power windows, right side power door and now the left side power door.Tried the battery reset and all works for a few minutes if we're lucky. Dealer was paid over $200 a couple years ago to fix the backup lights. Worked for a day then out again. At that point I found out about the bcm problems. Resetting the battery and fuse both don't keep on ours. Currently taking it back to the dealer tomorrow for a bcm flash but at this point I'm not convinced it will help. I hope so. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

The power locks on our 2005 Caravan failed at 55, 000 miles on vacation. Found this forum when we got home. Pulling and replacing the OID fuse works for us. I really appreciate it that you folks are kind enough to share your experiences. From the amounts of money I've seen here, you saved us several hundred dollars. Our usually efficient mechanic had told us we needed a new module. I was researching how much of a bill to expect when I found this site. Best to all of you.

Searched on line and found 81 other people with the same problem. Pulled the IOD fuse and reinserted and door locks work. Thanks. I plan on contacting Dodge and Consumer Reports and anyone else that will listen. This is a recurring problem that has been identified and should be resolved by Dodge. We shouldn't have to pay for their design errors/material failures.

BOUGHT A USED 2005 DODGE GC SXT TWO YEARS AGO. WHILE UNDER WARRANTY I HAD A RIGHT SIDE PWR SLIDING DOOR HARNESS BREAK. SYMPTOM WAS DOOR OPENING ABOUT HALFWAY AND THEN STOPPING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PWR CLOSE. NOW, NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY (44K) THE PWR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING. I'VE BEEN DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR LIKE TEN MIN AND THEY WORK FOR A WEEK OR TWO. I SAW ONE PERSON DISCONNECTED IT FOR 16 HOURS. I WILL BE TRYING THAT NEXT. I'VE NOTICED ALL MY PRESETS ON THE RADIO ARE NOT DELETED AFTER ONLY TEN MINS SO MAYBE THE DISCONNECTION FOR A LONGER PERIOD WILL HELP. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP ABOUT SITUATION. WOULD NOT SAY WHAT THEY THOUGHT IT WAS, JUST THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO BE LOOKED AT AND AND A SOFTWARE UPGRADE WAS $81 PLUS WHATEVER THE COST OF "LOOKING AT IT WAS". I'VE EMAILED DODGE FROM THEIR WEBSITE.

Putting our 2 cents in our 2005 caravan--which will be the last caravan we ever buy--should have gotten the Odyssey. Yes, we've had all the recalls but the doorlocking problem has been the worse. Just got it back from the mechanic today who has now put a FOURTH body controller in it--he says they are all re-conditioned and there's no guarantee how long this one will work. He has seen as many as seven checks on them when he gets them from Chrysler--meaning the same controller has been sent back 7 times because it failed something. Had no problems for the first 55K but now--I'm just waiting for the doors to go again. Thanks to this forum, hubby will certainly try the IOD fuse fix. Just wish there was some way to get the company to own up to this problem. Any ideas?

Pulling the fuse is only a temporary fix. I've had it last anywhere from a day to a month. This is a serious matter. How would you like for your wife to return to her van, thinking it was locked, to find someone inside waiting for her? Also she could be hurrying to get away from somebody following her to find her remote won't unlock the doors.

I own a 2005 Chrysler TC and have had the keyless entry and sliding doors individual auto locks malfunctioning on and off for 7-8 months. Thanks to your subscribers, I too keep fixing most of the problem, though only temporarily, by removing the 20AMP IOD fuse. But it is becoming a nuisance! As has been said by some of the subscribers, by now there should be a recall. The other fix mentioned is replacing the BCM fuse, but where is it and how do you pull it out?

i have 2004 sxt caravan. My list is endless too, breaks, water pump, sliding doors, battery, etc.....I still have the problem with sliding door. It responds to remote entry to attempt to open but stops and have to pull it open all the way. After opening remote entry or the button does not respond to close. I have tried resetting the battery, iod fuse and power slide fuse. The other problem I have is that when you open/close from the remote entry, the van does not flash the yellow side lights. This stopped a year ago. People are saying you need to upgrade the software or full reset from the dealers. Is this true? Is there somebody who knows how to resolve this issue. I will never buy a dodge again.

I had this same door problem a couple months ago with my 2005 grand caravan. I saw the IOD fuse fix on this site. It worked for about a month, but then the problem seemed to come back sooner each time that I reset the fuse. As long as I used the door lock and not the key fob, the locks worked, but as soon as I used the key fob about 3 or 4 times the locks would quit working.

Did the cleaning of the individual door switches work, Alan? this is definately a cash cow for some dealers, but is also test for us to use see if these "dealers" are truly interested in customer service." If they're smart they'll take care of the problem (10 minute software upgrade) and RETAIN those customers for future Sales /service. That is not only morally correct but GOOD Business.

Our '05 T&C started exhibiting this same issue about a month ago. I noticed that you couldn't lock the doors from the buttons in the van, but I didn't notice that the remote wasn't actually working (since the lights flashed and horn honked). My wife noticed that the remote wasn't working either a few days ago. A quick on-line search and this is obviously a common issue with these vans.I pulled the IOD fuse and it's working again. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it and see how long this temp fix works. Thanks!

Thanks so much for this Valuable information on the IOD fuse. This problem, occurred after my battery terminal had become corroded and needed cleaning and a new battery replacement. Shortly after doing this, about three weeks later, the locks stopped working. I have gone as far and checking the connector at the drivers side door, yes checked the harness connector, battery and terminals. Too much time invested huh? When checking the battery, I did notice that every time I disconnected it, the locks would work temporarily, so I knew it could not be the new battery or alternator. BTW resetting at the battery contacts worked for about a day. Lets see how long the fuse will work. If not then I will have to search on the flash other sites are referring too. But it seems this will involve a dealer visit $$$. I agree this should be a recall.

Need to get this fixed myself if I can as my husband is deployed and we have four kids. I opened the door panel up and found that the plug came out, put it back in but the auto lock still won't work. Will try the fuse thing but still... any ideas? I can manually lock it and unlock it but that is a HUGE pain.

I had the same problem as every one else. We have a 2005 dodge caravan that we got used last April about a month later locks quit. We did everything and the fuse worked the techs at the dealership said something was throwing a code into the computer that disabled it. Well sometime last fall the driver side sliding door lock quit, had my brother tear it apart and he said we needed a door lock actuator. Well we didn't get this part until the end of Feb 09, after the part died we didn't have the lock issues anymore, we put the new actuator in and haven't had any problems at all. So its a short in your vehicle the trick is to figure out whats shorting. Our new problem is the liftgate won't unlock but I think that it just needs a good cleaning. Good luck everyone, Dodge as a pain to deal with.

Pulling the fuse is only a temporary fix; ultimately the problem comes back. Only permanant solution is to re-program the BCM (Body Control Module). Any Dodge Dealership can do it - $91.00.

My 2005 Caravan has the same problem. The door locks just stoped working. The tail gate door continued to work. I pulled the fuse and they all now work. Thanks for the fix posting to this website. If this is happening this many times, I also agree that a recall should be done to permanently fixed this flaw.

Nice little problem we seem to have here...I just bought an 05 gc sxt LAST night!!!!!! We have not even had it 24 hours... How about that? Has anyone tried the fix Alan talked about reply #37, Clean the contacts on all the door lock switches? That almost seems like the hot ticket there. Might take the better part of the day, but if it fixes it the right way then its the best way to do it. Ideas?>

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan - Issue only is with the rear driver side door. Tried pulling IOD fuse (waited about 10 seconds). No luck :( (The door stopped locking via remote or driver door a few months ago). Randomly it started working one day but has not since. Van now has 50, 000 miles on it (purchased it used with 19, 000 in 2006) Other issues with this van: 1. Change the brakes every year (purchased Duralast Gold that have a lifetime replacement so anytime they get low, I just take them to autozone and get a new pair. Receipt is tied to my phone number). 2. Last year I changed the Rotors (stopped vibrating when I brake, but now it has started again - looks like I need to change the brakes again). 3. Passenger front leak (last summer, every time I turned the AC on I would have a puddle in the front. Took it to the dealer and after two attempts they were able to resolve it.

I am having a bit of a different problem so I hope this is still the right place to ask. The passenger sliding door lock is seized in the lock position while all the other locks work. There is not even any sound to verify it is trying to unlock. I have tried manually pulling the lock up but it won't budge!! I have tried the IOD fuse but had no luck. I will try the battery after work tonight but I wonder if it will help since the other locks work. I wouldn't mind so much if I could atleast manually unlock it from the inside. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Our 2005 Crand Caravan is a serious POS1.) Engine had a crank bearing go at 40, 000 mi. I changed the oil every 3, 000 mi with castrol GTX They said it was dirt in the engine, no warranty..all out of pocket. 2.) Pass. side power door stopped working, turns out the wires go bad in the wire track. I found a fix online, and have since soldered in new wires on that side. 3.) 40 mi. after the engine was rebuilt, power steering fluid started to leak out. (bad seal) 4.) Now @44, 000 mi the power lock issue. I'll try the fix when my wife gets home and report back. Sorry Dodge, I gave you a try. I was never a Ford fan, but each one of our fords (2 Explorers, 2 F-150's made it way over 150, 000mi before any problems showed up..guess that's why Ford aint going bankrupt. Now I just gotta find a Ford my wife likes that is easy for her to tote the kids. Caravan=junk

This fix has worked for me twice. The first time was about 6 months ago and then my power locks stopped working again today. My van is a 2005 with about 80, 000 miles on it.

I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan. The front and sliding door on the passenger side unlocks but wont lock. I tried pulling the IOD fuse but to no avail. Driver side works fine and I also noticed that it wont lock anymore at 20 mph. I will try disconnecting the battery tonight but does anyone else has problem?

I have a 2006 Graand Caravan with 55, 000 miles on it and just started to have side door lock problems but so far only with the drivers side sliding door. It will not unlock with the remote or on the inside panel. If I unlock it by hand the power door works ok it will just not lock or unlock, the passenger sliding door works ok as does the lift gate. Don't know if I should mess with it or not. I don't want to make it worse then it is now.

Sorry this is so long. But this is my 2nd USED Caravan(57000 miles). I regret getting them both. My doors stopped locking and unlocking over several months ago. I have ONE key hole to open the car (driver side). So I have to get in the driver seat and reach over the passenger seat to unlock the door so my disabled husband can get in. He is weak in his hands so it is difficult for him to unlock the back door on his side to let his daughter in. My 6 yr old is not strong enough to pull the locks up either. Never mind having to remind everyone to lock their doors. So I have been dealing like this for several months cause I don't have the money to fix it.So, I went to the dealership today and they wanted $89 just for a diagnosis. I said "You guys are trying to milk me out of every nickle I got!" They tried to act like they were doing good customer service, but I know better. "Ma'am we just want to find what the problem is" he said. This car has been nothing but problems. I have only driven this car 10, 000 miles in a year and a half. I was praying there was a solution to this problem and low and behold I found this site and found the IOD fuse and my locks worked!!! I then tried to unlock from my key and the lock didn't work. So I went back under the hood and it works only from the door and it now locks all doors at 19 mph. So I can deal with this. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SAVING ME A BUNCH OF UNNECESSARY WORK TO GET MY DOORS OPENED AND CLOSED, HELPING ME AND MY FAMILY BE SAFE!!! And saving me the money!

Vince, I also have a 2002 Caravan, both side sliding doors will not lock electronically or manually. I tried removing the IOD fuse as well, didn't work for me either. Anyone else have any ideas??

Thank you very much. I pulled out the yellow fuse at IOD, and pushed it back after 5 seconds. Now all of my locks are working.

I too had this problem just after 40, 000 miles with my 2005 Grand Caravan SXT. I took it to the dealer and they upgraded some software. No problems since. I would have been pretty upset if I had not had the extended warranty. There seems to be enough response here and on other sites that this should be a safety recall.

Thank you everyone! I too had the same problem with my power door locks not working. I pulled out the fuse, replaced it and now the door locks work, woohooo! Now, I should go back to the dealer and get my money back. They charged me $90 to tell me that it was an electrical issues with a component, and if I wanted it fixed, it would cost be an additional $350 to replace. However, the dealer is no longer in business, hmmmm, I wonder why...

I bought a used 2007 Caravan SXT with 63k miles on it. The sliding doors don't work and suprisingly the IOD fuse trick didn't fix it. I can see the locks move when I use the power switch, but neither lock on the sliding doors moves enough to either lock or unlock.

Walt, my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan started with the same problem in the passenger sliding door. I pulled off the panel and can feel the actuator/motor trying to work.My concern is that the actuator appears to be part of the door latch system, so it would probably cost a lot to fix. I am debating whether to replace the part, since I am not positive that would fix the problem. I tried the IOD fuse and battery disconnect, but this is a separate issue, so that did not fix the problem. Please let this forum know if you find a solution. I'll do the same!

Walt, et al., After much debate, I bought a lock actuator from the Dodge Dealer (about $80) to fix the sliding door lock on the passenger side of my 2007 DGC. Here are the steps I had to take: Disconnect the battery. Unplug the actuator (plug has four slots). Remove three screws with a T-30 star drill bit ($10 for a set at AutoZone). These are the screws that hold the lock mechanism to the door. They are accessed from the back of the open sliding door. Remove the metal rod from the lock mechanism (the rod that goes toward the front of the door). Remove a small, silver star-head screw (just one near the upper-right side of the actuator) to detatch the actuator from the lock mechanism. Attach the new actuator to the lock mechanism, being careful to make sure the metal lock peg inserts into the slider-slot on the actuator. Screw in the silver small screw. Re-attach the metal rod to the new actuator. Re-attach the lock with the three screws in the back of the door. Plug in the new actuator. Re-connect the battery. Finished! Not happy that this goes out on such a new van, but glad I could save the labor charges. The question for Walt is...is it worth $160 + headaches to have your locks working again?

Quick clarification: Before the fix, my lock also moved a little like Walt's. That is why I debated trying a new actuator.

I too have had problems with the power door locks on my 2005 Caravan for several years. I got tired of pulling the IOD fuse sometimes 10 times a week. I ran 2 wires, one from each leg of the IOD fuse to a toggle switch inside the car. I also added a 20 amp in-line fuse for protection. Now when the locks fail I simply flip the switch off for 5 seconds and I don't have to get under the hood. note: It only works with the engine off. It's a shame that Dodge doesn't recall this problem. The vehicle is full of electrical gremlins.

i have a 2005 Town & Country Minivan and had the same door lock/unlock issue. I pulled the IOD fuse and waited 5 secs and reinserted just like everyone before me said and it works like a charm. Thanks so much. It was a major pain walking around to manually unlock 4 doors with a 2 & 3 year old in tow.

Thanks to the one that discovered that fix. amazingly simple. i was going to have to make an appointmet with the dealer. You know that would cost me $200. and they would do the same thing. You don't realize how convenient they are until they are gone. True i suppose of a lot of things. thanks again

My rear passenger sliding door is the only one that won't automatically lock and unlock with the remote. Does anyone know if pulling the OID fuse will solve the problem with just the one door? Thanks.
