Dodge-Grand Caravan - Dodge Caravan wiper delay

My 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan has a problem with windshield wiper delay. When dry the wipers work fine. When raining (even just barely starting to rain) the delay does not work properly. At any of the 5 delay positions (speeds) the wiper will work 2-3 times, then go to detent position, bounce up about one inch, and stop working. You then have to switch it off, and back on again to resume, at which time it does it again. The low and high wiper speed work perfectly in any weather. Its only the delay. To fix the problem, the Chrysler dealer changed the multi-function switch on the steering column. This had no effect (other than to cost $200). I changed the low/high wiper relay (there apparently is no relay for the delay). That did not help either. According to the dealer the next step would be to change the "body computer" and then if that had no effect, the wiper motor (but the dealer checked out the motor and found it to be in good working order). Any ideas?

I own Dodge Grand Caravan 2006 year model. I have changed wiper about three times in the last two months( August and September). The problem, i see is, wiper blades race each other and end up one above the other. When it happens, wiper gets fully damaged(Bent out of shape severly). I changed wipers at the dealer shop and it happend again withing theree days. Motors seems to be working fine. Anybody have any idea why it is happening???

My 02 grand caravan does the same thing. The wipers get tangled up on the way back to the lower position. They tangle and get bent up. I have changed a couple of pairs so far. I thought about removing the wiper from the rod and reposistioning one slightly above the other.

I own a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan and I too am having the same problem with my wipers getting tangled up when returning to the "home" position. I believe that I am up to four new sets of wipers including one set purchased from a Chrysler dealership. I even thought that moving down to a 19" wiper blade on the passenger side would help...obviously not. Has anyone had success with the problem and if so, what can I do?

Having a problem figuring out wiper problem. I have a 1993 Dodge Caravan and the wipers quit. Replaced the wiper motor and checked the fuse. Fuse is fine. The wipers still don't work, but there is a clicking sound inside vehicle when the wipers are turned on, as if they are working. Is the problem in the column switch on the steering or is it in the wiring to the motor? Checked for juice with my meter on the motor, there seems to be no electricity getting to the new motor. Any suggestions?

2006 Grand Caravan wipers turn themselves on even though the switch is in the OFF position. Is there a factory bulletin on this problem? I recall a similar issue with a 1997 SWB Caravan.

Jim, I've having the same problem as you, but my Caravan is 1991 and the wiper motor switch is on the dashboard. I think the relays are working because I hear a clicking in rhythm depending on where I slide the switch for the delay control. Fuse is fine-- clicking stops when I remove fuse. I think the little box computer behind the dash is doing its job. I don't have pinouts or wiring diagrams on this vehicle and really no way to know what else is between the relays in the computer and the wires to the motor. The motor isn't getting juice-- went to autozone, where they had a motor in stock, and we checked it with my plug and it would not come on.Anyway, same problem, trying to fix so I can sell. Any help would be appreciated.

Dodge caravan 2006 3.3.litre 30k miles windshield wipers touch then the passenger side blade becomes totally destroyed - has happened to me 3 times. Dealer says it is a bent arm but this has only recently started and no one touches this vehicle but me. Dealer Mechanic adjusted it last week and it has now done it again. Any help appreciated. Vehicle did not appear on recall list for 260, 000 vehicles recalled with w/s motor problems

I am interested in how the other persons fixed the problem with wrecked windshield wipers – I had the same thing happen three times in the last month. The dealer told me it was a bent windshield wiper arm on the passenger side and it needed to be replaced and they didn’t have the part before I left Toronto. However I am at my cottage and went to my local mechanic . He fixed the problem in 5 minutes at no charge – the wiper on the passenger side was out of alignment – he freed it up from the spline – moved it down as it was going too far over to the edge of the windshield and then occasionally touching the other wiper on its return and so far it seems fine. I trust him as he replaced the transmission in a previous Chrysler van I had with a used transmission at a quarter of the cost of the Chrysler dealer and it worked fine for another 100k kms, plus he did a lot of other maintenance. Hope this helps. Regards, Al
