HI- First, you need to get more familiar with your new vehicle
so you can save yourself some money if you're slightly handy.
Go to the link. Sign up. You'll find volumes of info on your
tranny. Most important and likely; there's BAD FLUID, which is... ANYTHING BUT Mopar ATF+4. You'll need to change fluid and filter. Fortunately Big W carries Mopar+4 in W bottles of $3!
Get 6 bottles.
I don't know if you have 4 or 6 cyl. engine, but trannys for 6 are 3 spd. & 4 spd. w/ o/d. Both need the nylon `conditioners'
in the MOPAR ATF fluid. Use Chrysler dealer filter- it matters.
3 spd. is somewhat adjustable after pan/filter is off.
This means you'll need to drain the transmission fluid. Until recently I would have said to just crack the pan's seal and be ready to get VERY MESSY. But WALMART has an $8 fluid transfer pump I highly recommend. You should get 6 ft. of 3/16"i.d. clear tubing(also @ WALMART)to go to bottom of dipstick/filltube and
pump, to drain cleanly into gallon milk jugs, then remove pan.
When replacing pan, use rubber gasket AND $12 or so bottle of a
gasket sealer the assembly uses; "Great Stuff" in all autoparts
stores. Very quick setup time, & ALL MATING EDGES MUST BE DRY!
It's the best there is.
I have a 1998 dodge caravan with 170, 000 miles.it seems to be in on egear ( 3rd ) all the time.
It does not shift. I do have reverse and park. It does
not slip. Any ideas what it could be?
