I have a 1998 Dodge Caravan. A few months ago it died when my daughter drove it. It would turn over, but not start.
Since then. I gave up on it. Two months ago I bought a new battery for it, because it wouldn't even turn over. But I let it sit for about 3 months.
New battery wouldn't start it. Couple weeks later had a guy jump it and it started.
But, a couple days later it died.
When I got it started the van wouldn't go though. It felt like I had to push all the way down on the gas, and then it sputtered.
So, I gave up.
Then, about 3 weeks ago, I thought I'd give it a try. Charged the battery. When I start the van, it backfires, but not out the back, it's in the engine. Like a bang, pop sound. It has drove a couple of times. I took it around the block.
But, if I let it sit for two days, it won't start again, and I have to charge the battery overnight.
This morning, it wouldn't start. Just turning over and banging again. It's fully charged.
One person told me I need an alternator. Another tells me I have a fuel line problem. I can't afford a mechanic. I already paid for two different opinions!
Sorry this is so long I'm at my wits end, and with school starting in a week, I really need to figure this out!
