Dodge-2500 Pickup - Check Engine Light/Gas Gauge to Empty
matt (69.144.48.66) - Fri Jun 13 17:30:15 2008
When ever I fill up with gas, about 20 miles later the gas gauge goes to empty, the engine light comes on as well as the low gas warning light. When I shut it off and mess with the gas cap it returns to normal. It does this periodically until it get below 3/4 gas then it stops happening. Any suggestions?

2003 1500 dodge ram--ditto, my truck did the exact same thing. With gas prices dropping I filled up the other day. Drove about 30 miles since and tonight the guage dropped to empty activating the low fuel light and check engine light. I turned off the engine and restarted it. Fuel guage returned to normal but the check engine light stayed on....any clues???

From dakota 2000 service manual:"More Than Full Percent Tank Full Message - Each time the cluster receives a message from the PCM indicating the percent tank full is more than full, the gauge needle is moved to the far left (low) end of the gauge scale and the low fuel indicator is illuminated immediately. This message would indicate that the fuel tank sender input to the PCM is an open circuit."

I had and currently have this problem on my 03 Ram 1500. I first had it when the truck was only 2 years old and had a "sensor" replaced at the dealership. This repair took the tech less than 10 minutes. The problem came back 18 months later. I don't know what sensor was replaced, but I wish I did. If anyone has resolved this issue please advise.

I live in sunny and dry Phoenix, AZ. When I traveled to the Midwest on 2 separate times, the fuel gauge goes to empty when I encounter rain. One time I encountered this, continued to drive, it went back to normal until I opened my window. Did the humidity cause this? I drive a 2005 Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel.

Same thing here......06' Dodge 2500 MegaCab converted to run on both WVO and diesel. Started with an engine light yesterday. I pulled the code..."P0088" (fuel rail pressure too high). Reset it. Then on re-crank, the fuel gauge registered empty. Recranked again, and the fuel gauge reset itself. Drove for a bit and both came on. Reset it again. And it stayed off. Both were back on this morning. Found that my locking fuel cap hadn't 'set' to the lock position (after reading a few other forum notes). And have yet to reset the code to see if it happens again.Anyone ever figure out what this issue was?

Just bought a Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab.It is wrecked and I heard there is a reset button to push that shuts the fuel off when it is in an accident!Could someone please tell me where that button is?I know Ford has them..Thank you:)

2007 Dodge RAM 2500 SLT Megacab 4x4 5.9L TurboDiesel. This morning I ran out of Diesel!!!!!It was pouring outside and I was late to work! No, I am not that stupid, the fuel gage showed 1/4 of a tank and it was dry!!!!! I also have "check engine" light came on before this happened. The day before, I have changed fuel filter thinking that this might couse "check engine" light to come on. So still have it on and don't know what to do!!!! Is it a common problem?????? I run on B20 - 20% of Biodiesel and 80% Diesel. Could Biodiesel mess it up? Thanks for the reply!!!
