I HAVE A 96 CHRYSLER SEBRING JXI (COV). I WAS IN DRIVE THRU AND IT SHUT OFF AND IT ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO START, BUT DONT. IT GETS GAS. AND FROM READING THIS IM SCARED TO EVEN GET THE THING FIXED!!!THE CAR JUST WONT SPARK OR SOMETHING.
FROM WHAT I KNOW IT COULD 1) BE THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR
3)THE O2 SENSOR
4)THE COMPUTER NEEDS REPROGRAMED OR REPLACED
ETHER WHY NO COMPUTER CHECK WILL TELL YOU WHATS WRONG YOU WILL GET LUCKY IT SEEMS WHEN YOU FIX THE CAR. ALSO IMPORTENT NOTE!
IF YOU HAVE POWER ITS NOT THE BATTERY OR THE ALTERNATOR.
IF YOU HAVE AN O2 SENSER PROBLEM IT COULD OR FRYED YOUR CADILLAC CONVERTER OR ITS PLUGGED THAT WILL NOT COUSE IT TO START
WE ALL NEED HELP!!!!!!!!
I was driving my 2005 chrysler sebring between 55 and 60 mph when it started to lose speed I pulled over to the side of the Hwy. When turning the vehicle off it would not start back up. I did have it towed to the dealer and they wont be able to look at it until tomorrow. Any ideas on what the problem can be?
I have a 2000 Sebring convertibel with exactly the same problem. I have a code reader that checks LIM stuff. But it isn't reading anything wrong. It says that the fuel system is OK, no codes, nothing. It cranks, and acts like it wants to start, but won't start. It just died on my while it was sitting (running) and I was standing outside the car. I really need some help on this. I've checked the timing belt and it isn't broken. Tomorrow I'll check the timing marks (alignment) and the spark. I've also checked the fuses under the hood and swapped the relays around (known good ones) to see if a bad relay might be the culprit. I can hear the fuel pump whir for a second or two when the key is turned on.
My main question is this, Will a Crank Position Sensor, Distributor, etc mentioned above throw a code? I am getting NO codes or anything.
1997 sebring wont start - no spark to plugs- I see this seems to be a problem - I am stranded in Santa Fe new mexico and have taken the car to two mechanics who do not have a clue- has anyone fixed the problem?
So this is funny. I just replaced my crank sensor, fuel pump, battery, starter and the right wheel baring (if your car makes a very loud humming noise and shakes have someone take a look at that). After replacing all that it turns over faster... but today after getting home from work.....nada. I parked ridiculously and then i went to move it. turned over just didn't start. I have now come to the conclusion that chryslers are stupid and have random starting problems. I'm begining to think that it's just the way they are.
-1997 chrysler sebring jx convertable owner.....
For all of you out there w/no spark problems :I am a professional auto mechanic w/ 38 years experience I also own a 96 Sebring Lxi coupe w/2.5 v-6 my problem started out 2 years ago w/ a intermittant missfire gradually got worse stalling after long freeway runs etc, but allways started right back up. I figured plugs, wires, maybe injectors &replaced them all, 1 thing at a time just so I could be sure in case a customer had a similar problem. No luck problem just got worse I have a scantool &know how to use it.(I also have a "Bear Ace" big box scope but didn't want to drag the monster out! more later)"no problems found" car still continues to get worse. eventually I replaced w/ new or "known good" egr valve, crankshaft pos.sensor, temp sensor, both speed sensors rotor button, plugs tps, iac, computor, fuel pump&relay, all other relays&fuses, fuel filter, checked timing belt, even pulled both cyl. heads ®round the valves, checked pistons&rings nothing helped. Car would start but would not stay running. Altogether I spent over 160 hours (@$100/hr.?!) trying to figure it out (wifes car couldn't give up). As a last try ordered a new distributor from allignition.com $175.00 vs$1200.00 from dealer problem solved still don't know what part of the distributor was the culprit but its fixed now. Any of you who have similar problem I suggest you find a good mechanic who owns& knows how to use a scope/scanner as this will cut down on diagnosis time tremendously &will almost always find the problem when a scanner alone won't I only wish I had taken my own advice &pulled my scope out of mothballs instead of cowboying my way through this one. Hope this helps. ps: crank.pos.sensor is on top of bell housing just below distributor Also won't spin over batt. &starter ok usually bad theft deterrrant key have chrysler parts make new one&must have it coded to car.
I have a 1997 Concord. It keeps overheating.
I had two machanics check the sensors for the fan/s
The problem seems to be the cooling fans are not kicking on all the when the car starts to overheat.
I had the entire fan unit replaced and still the same problem
Could it be the computer
1998 sebring: I have the same thing as many drivers but one thing my well drive for 10 t0 20 miles no problem and it acks like it runs out of gas!My wont start tell after 20 to 40 mins setting on the side of road....starts like nothing wrong....check the wreck sencer is thier on in the rear......drove it for a year with no problems
its deffenlery wierd.....
i have a 2000 chrysler sebring lxi with the 2.5 in it. it will start if i give it alot of gas and i have to flutter the throtle to keep it going or it dies. once it warms up it will idle on its own but barely, just under 1000 rpm. it shakes real bad. the exhaust smells a little wierd. anyone have any ideas. please help. I NEED HELP!!!
well ken, it should be ideling around 700 rpm but as far as you exaust and shaking goes, if it smells like rotton eggs then thats a sign that your catalytic converter is cloged.
I have a 1997 sebring convertable, 6 cyl. when i start the car it runs for a few seconds then shuts off, the headlights flash and the horn blows for awhile. when the key is turned to the start posistion the lights flash and horn blows. can anyone tell me whats going on? thanks larry
My son's 1998 Chrysler Sebring LXi 2 door sedan, 2.5 V6, automatic, will just suddenly act like it dies (stalls), while driving, but it comes right back on. Once, it died and as he pulled to the side of the road, it re-started with the key, and appears to run fine. I checked it with a hand-held scanner and it coded "PO420", something to do with catalyst efficiency. I don't know that one has anything to do with the other, unless one of the cats is stopping up. Can you shed any light or advice on this? Could it be the CPS, even though it isn't throwing a code for it? Thanks in advance for your time and help.
i had a chrysler sebring 2000 My car has been shutting off while driving. Sometimes it will start right back up but sometimes it will leave you sit for hours. It will after a while start right back up but cannot go for long distances without doing it again. Or, if I make it to my destination, it won't start back up and I have to sit and wait. There is not a check engine light on. This was a progressive problem that started with it occasionally feeling like it was going to shut off, leading to it shutting off at lights and intersections when not pressing the accelerator, to shutting off while driving. It is doing it more and more often and after shorter and shorter distances.
my 1998 chrysler cirrus lxi 2.5 liter v6 runs kinda rough the idle kinda steady but engine feels rough. The car seems fine when its cold or accelerated past a curtain RPM like in between 1 and Up. I drove through a puddle of water and my engine just stalled out and wouldn't start. I replaced the spark plugs, rotor. I inspected cap and the wires and tested them they seemed ok so I didn't replace them. The car started and sounded very strong and normal, however the rough idle and the engine sporadically jumping started to become a problem. Then I noticed that the engine light had come on shortly after, so I changed the MAF sensor on the throttle intake manifold and still same problem whats going on? how do I stop the sporadic jumping it feels like its misfiring, it is nerve wrecking please help!
|I have a 99 sebring convertable that will not start, STARTER WILL NOT TURN OVER, FUEL PUMP WILL NOT COME ON , AND THERE IS NO SPARK FROM THE IGNITION. |My main hood release isn't working. Any insight as to how I can get my hood open?|
I HAVE A 2000 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTIBLE JX MODEL. A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO THE CAR JUST WOULDNT START ANYMORE. I CHANGED THE BATTERY BECAUSE THE BATTERY IS 5 YEARS OLD AND STILL NOTHING. WHEN I INSERT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD TURN ON BUT WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION THE DOOR LIGHTS GET DIM AND THE CAR DOESNT START. I CHECKED THE CABLES AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO SHORT. WHAT CAN IT BE? IF ANYBODY CAN HELP ANSWER MY QUESTION THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. PLEASE HELP
I just a bought a 2000 Chrysler Sebring 120.000 miles. Steering alignment is good. The car makes a thumping sound when accelerated. I could tell that the it has to be something near the front wheel bearings. Theres some type of friction when slowing down. What could be the loose clicking noise on the the two front wheels? I'm just looking to buy the parts and have them replaced.
The drove 100 miles to where I picked it up. I understand it needs work,
new brake pads. what is causing the friction and loose noise. What parts are needed, thank you for your time and help.
I have to agree with everybody who had anything to say about the exceedingly poor engineering of these pos cars. Another issue I have found in two Lxi's (98 and 97 respectively) is that the positive lead for the EGR sensor tends to run over the top of the exhuast manifold and burns through the insulation shorting it out. Thanks to some genious at Chrylser the vehicle completely dead shorts. Ignition does not work, no spark, no power to the windows radio or anything, simply, the battery power goes nowhere. Also, the transaxle loves to blow apart and send the main pinion through the bellhousing of the transmission, if it hasn't already shorted out the circuit for 2nd gear (another Chrysler recall which does nothing for someone who purchased the car used and after the fact). The best advice I can give is sell it while it runs and hope your conscience doesn't catch up with you.
Joaquim - Check out the knuckles if its only acceleration; something else to look for maybe the position of the hub around the spindle (if things are wore out it could click, but this would be unlikely as it would rapidly dissintergrate), and with all of the maintenance free friction points on the front end, I've heard of numerous sebrings with front ends being totally worn out
I recently bought a used 99 chrysler sebring jxi limited. The car had a 165, 000 miles and it was has been nothing but trouble. It would not start for a week, we had to jump start it and let it run for a while each day. After a couple days of this it began to start normally.
A second issue is that the car has this hesistation or stalling at stop lights and intersections. If i have to come to a complete stop, it crawls when i put my foot on the gas. This is extremely dangerous in busy intersections. At first i was told the catalytic converter was responsible for this hesitation, but, after replacing the converter there was still no change. Now the car has had the transmission re-built and new belts and a distributor, yet the hesitation is still there. Now im being told that it could be a broken valve in the motor, but since this issue sounds common for sebrings, i'm worried a new motor wont change anything. What is wrong and how do i fix this?
Hi i Have a 1999 Sebring LXI with 116, 000 mile Just Recently my car would shut off at a stop light or going to a complete stop once the RPM would get down low and now it will start for about 30 seconds then cut off, i sprayed some starting fluid in the breather to get it running just a little bit but barely help i have been told by a mechanic that the injectors are possibly clogged up and restricting the gas flow. Will someone please reply and tell me a diagnosis
I have a 97 Chrysler Sebring and had this problem twice. Car stalled at a light and then never started back up. Both times it was the ignition coil.
I have a 1997 Sebring JXi Convertible. It has a random misfire that wont go away. I replaced the crank shaft position sensor and distributor (3 times) still misfires and now just wont start. I bought a distributor out of a working motor and will put it on soon but am worried that there may be something causing the distributors to fry. Has anyone hat this problem?
