Chevrolet-Tahoe - 1999 Chevy Tahoe getting stuck in park

Two weeks ago I had an issue with getting out of "Park" on my 1999 Tahoe. It seemed to be heat related, as it only occurred after being parked in the sun for several hours. I took it to my regular Chevy-GM repair shop, and they said it was a solinoid (BTSI) which wasn't properly engaging when I pressed the brake pedal (to engage gears). I was suspicious, given that the problem was only occurring when the interior cab temperature reaches 90+ degrees. After the repair (replaced BTSI), I had no such problem for a week, while my region experienced daily rain. Now, in the past two days, the problem is back (with the return of the sunny weather). I'm looking for other opinions, as this issue seems to be a difficult one to address or "replicate".

Leo I am having the same problem with my 97 Tahoe... the winters here are cold so pulling it out of park is usually not a problem unless I let it warm up too long! The summers suck! I am seeming to be able to trick it once and a while by turning the power off to the CD player... how about you. How do you go about getting around this problem? I am in the same boat as you looking for some answers and I got the same thing! It's just not working! Is there anyone else out there who can help us?

I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe and it gets stuck in park but not when it's hot. I pushed some of the 4 wheel drive buttons and it finally shifted. Any ideas what's wrong?

I have a 98 tahoe and it gets stuck in park when my wife drives it and when i get in it and start driving it runs like a champ. My wife had an episode today again, and I also think it has to do with the heat because when it is too hot out the driver's side window wont go down. I am trying to replace the Neutral safety switch but I can not find it.

Hmmm. I have the early model 2000 Tahoe (looks like a 99)with the same problem. Record heat here today...94 i think. Worked fine once, then stopped, parked, 20 seconds later I'm stuck in the middle of the grocery store parking lot.My workaround - With engine running, I set parking brake, crawled under, disconnected the shift linkage, shifted transmission manually into drive, got in, released parking brake, drove home, set parking brake, turn off engine, crawl under, reconnect linkage, get back in to check (just for fun)...and it works...well worked twice, now stuck in park again. My question is this: When the linkage is disconnected at the transmission, why does the trany shift properly AND the lever in the cab move freely? When I reconnect the linkage to the shift lever, it's stuck again. There must be some #%#@ sensor thats fouled up in there somewhere. I wish I'd never sold my '70 camero.

I have the same problem shifting out of park except mine is not wheather related. My tail lights are out also. Nothing happens when I press the brakes. Already checked the fuses for the tail lights and they are fine. I would like to know what it is before taking it into a shop and having them tell me it could be 10, 000 diffrent things and that they have to fix all sort of things to find the problem. 99.99% of repair shops in vegas are crooks! and the dealers charge a fortune to look at your car. Not talking about repair. Just looking at it cost $100 bucks. Hope someone can help. Thaks!
