408/13/09 09:20Paul Stevens | Any suggestions where to start? Some people have suggested a speed sensor? |
508/22/09 12:17John Allen | I had 3 of my guages go out on me over a period of time. After looking for clues here on the internet, someone turned me onto the known Chevy problem. You need to take your vehicle to your local dealer. They will assess the problem for warranty, which is good up to 7 years on this known problem. Should it be proven their problem, they will fix it for free within about 10 days once the part(s) is ordered. Keep in mind the initial look may cost about $75 should it not be associated with the dash board. I had no problems with getting mine fixed for free because of the extended chevy warranty on this problem. You should not have to call any claim center. Good Luck |
611/12/09 22:10Kevin Callahan | I've had problems with my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado starting at about 70, 000 mi. The first was a speedometer that stopped functioning. Then the "engine service" yellow icon came on. Before I made it to the dealer for servicing the speedometer returned to working? The dealer did an oil change, cleared the service engine light and told me they couldn't find a problem. Now that I know about the defect I wonder why they didn't mention the defect? After a few days the light came on again, and within a month the speedometer stopped working again, however this time it was all the guages in the cluster ceased to operate. I used my GPS for a speedometer and by filling the fuel tank and resetting the GPS's trip meter Im able to calculate, to a certain degree, the fuel level and speed. Now the blue high-beam light glows at night and the dealer says It will cost between $350-$500! I baby my truck. My brother and I have had Chevy/GM vehicles since the '70's. Im losing faith in GM Quality Control. I've seen other comments online where GM admits the defect and Mr. GoodWrench takes care of the cost. How do I find the alleged claim site? Thanks in advance for any help! -Kevin Callahan kevincocoa@aol.com |

| My 2005 SS Pickup speedo cable went out this weekend, so disappointing to hear from others that this is a common occurence with chev trucks. This is not good news. Sucker is stuck at 50 . I suppose the only thing in this trucks future is the entire dash to go out. Bravo!! Thanks GM |
| I believe that there is a class action law suit against GM for this defect. I was contacted two years ago, prior to mine going bad. The problem is a deffective stepper motor for the spedo. My was replaced under the extended warrenty. Good Luck |
| I've been looking for 2+ years now for something about my fuel gauge malfunctioning. When I reported this issue near 45k miles I was told it would be 400+ to fix it (I was already out of warranty) Now my speedo is having trouble, my lights dim out every now and again, but since i'm sitting at 89k miles I'm left out of the coverage. No-one from GM ever contacted me about the recall/special coverage, no-one offered to fix it when I brought it to the dealer's attention when it would have been covered. Now the dealer wants me to pay the fee to fix it out of pocket, and GM Corporate said it's my fault for buying a used vehicle instead of a new one as only new customer's got notified. (Bought it at a chevy dealer, in the used section) What do I do now? How do I get this replaced under the recall? |
| Over the course of the past year all of my gauges except the speedo have stopped working on my 2004 silverado. I was not aware of the recall and even if I had been notified I was over the mileage limit. Refuse to pay the 700 for dealership to fix. trying to find a replacement part. does anyone know the part #? |
| Having cluster problems. A little confused some people are saying warranty expires at 70, 000 and others 100, 000. Wich one is it? |
1305/09/10 00:38Chris Pierce | Had same problem. Check out Ebay Item number: 260465550964. Good deal on repair |
| My 03 silverado Is doing the same thing, speedo is at 70 MPH and wont come back, oil pressure guage is at 80 but fluids are fine and nothing wrong with engine, engine, Indicator light is on but nothing happening, |
| have an '03 2500 silverado and am on my third instrument panel. first two were on GM recall, the third has held up well for about 25000 miles. Infrequently it does go out with no guages working except the odometer. Try this, remove the ipc/dic fuse from the under hood fuse box with the engine off. It's marked by the diagram on the underside of the fuse box cover, or in your owners manual. Wait a few minutes and plug it back in. Start it back up and it should restore. The same also works if your a/c starts blowing hot on one side and cold on the other. Remove the hvac/ecas fuse let it sit a few and plug it back in. The electicals on these GM trucks are a farse. Next one is going to be a FORD. |
1610/08/10 18:43edmond greer | i have apeed-o-metter light out do i have to replace the hole assy or is their a bulb that i can replace on a 2006 2500 hd chevy |
1712/13/10 18:51C Williams | My 04 silverado oil gauge is out, and the others sometimes work. I was never told about a recall and now am out of coverage( would have been in if they would have told me). Chevy will not fix for under 600.00. This is bull***t. I have always owned Chevy and this is not how you take care of crappy parts and loyal customers. When my two Chevy's are done, I will consider someone with better warranties/craftsmanship |
| started having numerous problems this past week. 1-engine started running hot with my plow on the vehicle. i was able to angle it to help but still a problem at times. then i noticed my oil gauge stopped working. soon after that my eng light came on and the code was p0894. i checked the trans fluid due to it being a trans code and the fluid is red and full.i drove it again and noticed my oil gauge is now working but my speedo is not working properly. i am being told i have a few problems one being a failing transmission, a bad dash cluster and my clutch fan is no good. i have replaced the clutch fan and won't know if the problem has been corrected until i run with the plow again. as for the other 2 issues they seem to coincidental. i have been looking for common componenets and the only ones i see are the pcm and vss, any ideas? |
1903/11/11 12:06Linda Tuller | I am trying to get some help from Chverolet about fixing my cluster unit. This is the 2nd time it has gone bad. The first was on when the truck was still on warrenty and the 2nd under 40, 000 miles! What do I have to do to get them to fix their problem? This truck was my first vehicle purchase ever for me and this is what I get for my money. Any help would be appreciated. |
2003/11/11 19:23Linda Tuller | If anyone knows of any class action lawsuits over the cluster problems with 2003 GM Silverado's I would like very much to add my name to it. They need to be held accountable for this wide spread problem. Please let me know if there are any out there. Linda Tuller lindatuller@hotmail.com Thanks alot! |

2003 Chevy TruckI have had the same problem as all of you with the cluster going out. I have also had everything on the passage side of my truck go out. I cannot roll up the windows lock the door from either the driver side or passage side. And when I open the doors the doom light comes on when the driver side opens but it won’t come on when the passage side opens. Has anyone else, had the same problem |

If I remember right, when this happens it is usually a grounding problem. |
2708/29/12 21:43Massachusetts | "Passenger door - No power, no functions"
I had a problem with power loss to functions on the passenger door of my 04 Silverado: One day all power accessories on the passenger door were working fine. Then all of a sudden nothing worked as you have described. I checked the cables and the 25AMP fuse for the right door that is found in the fuse box under the dash on the driver's side. All checked OK. I removed the power window module from the passenger door and measured 12 volts was getting to the switch. Bought a replacement switch on ebay that was out of an 04 Silverado and had the exact same part number on the back. Replaced the switch in the passenger door with the switch I bought and it made no difference! Everything in the passenger door still doesn't work. I finally found the cause of the problem. There was a broken wire in the bundle of wires that run from the dash through the door jamb and into the passenger door. I unplugged the harness from the right side of the dash, pulled it out of the jamb and unwrapped the harness to expose the wires. To my surprise the thin brown wire in this harness was broken. After I repaired that wire everything was back to working as normal. Don't ask me how this wire got broken. It is a mystery to me. |
