Chevy S10 Cam Position Sensor I have a 98 Chevy S10 pickup with 4 cylinder & 5 speed trans. While driving truck bucked or miss fired & the Service engine light came on. The truck seems to still run normally. Hooked a computer code reader to truck & the code that comes up is for the Cam position Sensor. Can anyone tell me where the Cam position sensor is located & how much of a project is it to replace it.
i dont know if this is any help but i found it on the net. if this doesnt help buy a chiltons auto manuel or go to a library usually they will have a chiltons. To the best of my knowledge a 98 2.2L 4-cyl does not have a cam sensor. It does however have a crank sensor and if you look at the lower crank pulley just to the back of the pulley and go around the pulley you should find the sensor mounted on a bracket. You should see what appears as a sprocket with widely spaced teeth on the engine side of the pulley. This "sprocket" so to speak is what the crank sensor "reads". I believe that the crank sensor is the only sensor used for engine timing. The 2.2 is an overhead cam engine design and a crank sensor wasn't used. I know this is the case for the 96 models, both 2.2L and 4.3L v-6 and the design has carried through current models to the best of my knowledge.
I have a 2000 S-10 2.2 liter 4 cylinder automatic. Can anyone tell me where the crankshaft position sensor is located. Its seems to be located on a different location than the '98. Either that or we got the wrong part.

I know the camshaft position sensor in my 1998 chevy is in the distributor. i have to replace it myself. i unplugged my mass air flow and air temp on my air intake near the filter so it would run. the part is anywhwre from 30 to 50 dollars. I also replaced my fuel pump because it quit working. i got a new one and it didnt have enough pressure build up i guess to make things work right.. i got another one after that and it runs fine now.

I have a 1998 chevy s10 and it starts to putter when i take off a or when i step on it but its like there is a misfire but i just had a tune up like a month ago and it started doing it the other day could someone tell me what it could be please
By the way it is a 2.2 four cylinder
Done with the replacement buddy? You can check out some tutorials on the internet. The camshaft position sensor is easy to fix but you need to know the proper procedures.
The cam sensor on the 4.3 litre V6 is in the distributor. It has a noticable wire connection extending from the base of the distributor, to access - remove dis cap, align slot on distributor with sensor.
Poor performance, no codes, hesitation, hard starting to the point of requiring starting fluid could be many things. Start with the cheapest/simplist end with take to shop: remove air filter, clean Mass Air Flow Sensor, replace fuel filter (on frame in some applications), plugs, wires, coil, distributor with cam sensor, crank sensor, cataltic converter. If not, then take to shop; fuel pump test, ECM, other.
i changed a motor out of a july 96 blazer to a november 96 blazer uses the july computer broke the distrubutor cap replaced it all it will do is crank wont start but backfires can some one tell me what is wrong or is it the computer cause i didnt get one with the nov, blazer thanks for any help

last summer on my sons s-10 it was hard to start every morning i assumed fuel pump replaced it the distributor/then fuel filter/just all kinds of things pulled out the crank sensor checked out good fall came ran good again well here we are 100 degrese out side had to start it with either this morng just one little shot i do not beleive it is a fireing problem maybe the fuel pressure bleeds down or something
I have a 98 S-10 2.2 and it doesn't like to start in the mornings mostly. Usually when it's damp out and when it's cold and damp it's worse. It cranks pretty good, but acts like it's out of gas, but it's not the gas, and using starting fluid does not work. I have changed the coil pack, the fuel pump, tuned it up, and the starter. It does always start, but I have to let it sit a minute and then try it and sometime I wait up to 5 minutes in between trying and this routine has taken up to 30 minutes. Any idea? Other than something electrical that is getting moisture in it, I'm pretty much out of ideas. Once running, it runs like a champ.
The cam sensor is inside the distributor on the 4.3 V6. There is a four wire connector for this.
The crank sensor is on the passenger side of the timing cover. Held in by one bolt. You can see it easier from underneath the truck.
the 2.2 I4 does not use a distributor. It has two coil packs and the PCM controls the timing.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to add that a lot of the sounds of your problems can also be tied to the Fuel Injection System. On the Vortecs, it uses a SCPI system that is a very high failure rate. Most part stores will carry a conversion kit to MFI for about 300, and is well worth it. It will start with hard starts, no starts, misfires, or running rich/lean. There really isn't a way to test this unfortunately, but after you test everything else, this is where I'd recommend looking. You have to pull the intake plenum off to get at it, and it's commonly called the Spider Valve, based on how it looks.
i have a 1998 chevy s-10, 2.2 litre, the other day i was driving and it felt like it was misfiring, brought it to auto zone code came up general misfire, now the truck will not start, i have fuel and spark but still will not start, changed the crank sensor but still will not start can anyone help me out
