Hi all!I have a extended cab S-10, and the door handle for the third door is broken. I have the new handle, but when I pulled off the face-plate, it looked pretty complicated. Can anyone give me a little advice on how to change this part out? Thanks in advance!

My 3rd door on my 2001 S-10 worked perfect then all of a sudden now when I pull the latch to open it doesn't work. I can pull on the door after pulling the latch and its seems free at the top of the door but not at the bottom. What gives? Is the latch broken or is it something else? Thanks for your help!

I am in the simalar situation. MY top latch released, but the bottom one will not let go all the way. I have taken off the handle and tried to pull on the bottom bar. That did not work. If any one has a better idea, it woull be helpful. If I figure it out I will post it myself. Thank you.

I have gone through two third- (rear side) door latches on my 1998 S-10. It was obvious from inspection of the part, the first time, that it was terribly underdesigned. Sure enough, in about the same ammount of time, the second one broke. I'm going to hit up Chevy for a free handle replacement this time, and if I can't get it, I'm going to fashion my own out of metal.Paul

If your door is loose at either the top or the bottom the plastic part of the latch that attaches to the rod that activates the latch has probaly come off the handle or the rod. To fix this you must thke the handle loose and reach in to grab the rod and open the door. After the door is open remove the door panel by removing the seatbelt anchors and pulling the panel off. You can now see and fix the problem.

A better aluminum handle is at www.3rddoorhandle.com 15 minute replacement time and it has a lifetime warranty. Works GREAT!!!

In order to get to the inner workings I had to remove the entire panel off the third door. Once I had that off I was able to get to the handle to replace it. My Dad actually just fabricated me a knew handle since the stock handle is a cheap piece of junk. Hope this is helpful to someone.

How do you replace the third door handle on a 2003 S10 extended cab so that the new one won't break? I'm on the 4th one!

For anyone with a rusted/stuck bottom latch on the the 3rd door - A) the handle is not broken, B) you have the the door panel off, and C) and you can see the latch release working, spray the latch with lots of WD40, wait a bit, then hold the release open and just kick the damn door from the inside. LEB: If you are talking about an x-cab, all you need is a T-47 torx bit. I suggest one embedded in a socket (got mine at NAPA - you won't find anything bigger that T-40 at hardware stores). Use the T-47 to unscrew the seat belts, then just pull off the panel. It's held by clips. Mike K: Search the net. Seems like everyone who owns an S10 has the problem. Now I just gotta find a new latch.

Second door handle for me, only because when they break I'm too cheap to get it fixed so I just leave it broke for a few years. Because of this no more GM products for me. GM needs to man up and recall these cracker jack handles.
