I have a 1996 Chevy s-10 after the truck sits for about a week the battery goes dead. I have replaced the battery with the recommended size so, I have a brand new battery in it.Just spent $500.00 on tune-up. Anyone know what the problem could be?

I have the same problem. I have a 2001 Chevy s-10 pickup with the 2.2 engine and auto trans. The battery drains when I don't run in for a couple of weeks. The first time I found this, I tried to put a charger on the battery, but it would not take a charge. Took the battery back under warranty and they gave me a new one. Same problem. Then went to another auto parts store and bought a new battery and had them test the electrical system. No problems found. Same problem happened again. They replaced tha battery and again checked the system. No problems. Then I installed a battery disconnect switch. Not I get "not ready" codes, and it won't pass inspection. Ugh!! Anyone got any ideas?

I also have a 1996 Chevy S-10, 2.2 eng, manual trans. 140, 000miles. Same problem although it is intermittent. Battery goes dead sometimes charging will fix. Can last a month or a couple of weeks. Parts house suggested looking for loose grounds. This trouble started June 2009 battery replaced and alternator replaced, battery replaced August 2009 had bad cell, Now in November battery dead again after not being run for two days. From August till now no trouble. Ground wires from battery to engine block okay ground wire that splits off negative battery connection to frame also okay. Found loose bolt on Bell housing that had some wires on it but I dion't think this is the problem. Charging brought battery back. Alternator test shows that alternator okay. Suspect possible componet drawing jucie when key is off but whatever it is it doesn't do it all the time. I know that some power is being drawn possibly for the computer all the time and the clock in the radio has power all the time, but I don't think this problem is caused by those items. Will keep looking and let you know if I find anything.

I had the sams problem with a '94 s-10, along with many other electrical problems. Check the lights in the mirrors on the sun visors. One of mine would not turn off. I completely disconnected them. This solved my dead battery problem.
