You can bleed the brakes on 2001 Chevy S10 using conventional bleeding procedures as long as no air has entered the ABS modulator. The bleeding sequence would be the typical one used on most GM trucks: Rear Right, Rear Left, Front Right, Front LeftIf air has entered the Kelsey Hayes EBC-325 modulator, a scan tool will be required to cycle the ABS solenoids and fully bleed the brake system. Air can enter an ABS system by any of the following 3 reasons; 1. master cylinder has been replaced, 2. reservoir allowed to run dry of fluid, 3. ABS hydraulic component has been replaced.
A generic ABS bleeding method will work on most ABS systems (a scan tool is always the optimum method)
1. Bleed the conventional brake circuit until you get a firm pedal(use sequence above)
2. Take vehicle for slow speed test drive (quiet parking lot)
3. Drive at speed just enough to activate ABS (6-10 MPH)
4. Slam on brakes to instigate ABS stop (take care as the pedal will drop when air is released into conventional circuit).
5. Repeat steps 1-4 as needed.
I have spent the past 14 years in the field of brake bleeding as the owner/developer of the Speedi-Bleed pressure bleeder tool. It is sold primarily to repair shops, but recently we have added low price DIY kits. More info: www.speedibleed.com
