while driving in 2wheel drive, transfer case partially shifts into 4wheel drive, makes strange noise, then looses traction, engine and transmission are working properly.I need any help or suggestions anyone can provide. Thanks

Tom, Check the vacuum lines on transfer case. Not sure of the technical name (possibly modulater or actuater) If this is bad you will get tranny fluid into your engine. Then your looking at problems. Take the canister off and see if you have oil in it, if so its back feeding.

I'm having the same problem as Tom mentioned with my 2000 Chevrolet S10 pickup. While driving in 2-wheel drive the transfer case partially shifts into 4-wheel, makes strange noise and loses traction. Engine and transmission are working properly. My question is to Tom or anyone else familiar with same problem. Did you find out what was wrong and how to fix it? Appreciate hearing from you. thanks.

I was having the same problem, it was working recently before, then when i tried it the other day, it would blink on the 4x4 switch inside the truck. So i took apart the acutuator to see if its pulling to stay in place and it wasn't doing anything. then i tried doing it with the part disembled, there was no air at all. So i'm starting to think the 4x4 motor is shocked, but i can here it under the truck.
