I had the same problem, and strangely enough, I replaced my battery with something with a little more power and the light stopped. So either the light burnt out, or it had something to do with the electrical system.Who knows? -Hailthorn

I HAVE A 1998, CHEVY CAVALIER. IT IS WINTER HERE IN UPSTATE NY. THE CAR STARTS FINE, I DO LET HER HEAT UP FOR APPROX. 3 MINS. . THEN ABOUT TEN MINS. LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL GETS STIFFENED, AND DOSN'T WANT TO MOVE. ABOUT TWO MINS. LATER I START THE CAR AND SHE'LL MOVE FOR ABOUT MAYBE 30 SEC. , AND DOES THE REPEAT ALL OVER AGAIN. I DID TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A NEW BATTERRY A SEARS (NORTH) BATTERY, EXPLAINED TO THE TECH WHAT WAS GOING ON , THE TECH PLACED THE CAR IN THE DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THERE ARE NO CODES COMING UP ?. SO OF COURSE I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO . IS THERE ANYONE THAT MAY PROBABLY KNOWS WHATS GOING ON? I APPRECIATE ANY FEED-BACK. THANK-YOU.

To me it sounds as if your power steering pump is weak or empty! Check the level and fill it if necessary, or replace the pump...and maybe consider somewhere other than Sears for automotive consultation. I don't know what they are like in NY, but if they are anything like Canadian Tire here in Canada, you are better off at a private mechanic...Good luck! dg2

Hi, i have had the light problem, it turned out to be a broken wire under the right rear wheel, it is a 2 wire piece about 8 inches long and connects to some sensor up around the wheel arch, usually the red wire is broken. hope this helps you out, Scoff.
