There has been a problem with my 1997 cavalier lately. It first started about a month ago. I will be driving could be up a hill .. on a flat surface, making a turn anything even going down hill; and when I press on the gas pedal just slightly to say make a turn the car feels like it just hangs up. The car was starting to hold back at 20mph, now a couple weeks later its starting at 10mph. It will feel like the transmission is holding back and then all of a sudden knocks hard and jumps up about 10 to 20mph out of nowhere once its no longer stuck. its been doing it off and on now or a few weeks. i just made a 600 mile round trip with the car and it never did it once. until now a week later after the trip it has started again. it doesn't always do it but some days it will do it all the time and other days maybe just once. it could do it one day then not happen again for another 3. And i am afraid that one day it will get stuck then all of a sudden take off and i will end of hitting someone. So I need your help to help me figure out what could be causing this. My car was just recently inspected and the mechanic told me its in perfect running condition and couldn't find nothing wrong with it and of course when he took it for a drive it didn't act up . I have had many people tell me all sorts of things it could be. I just don't want to pour like 600 into the car replacing all sorts of things then find out its something simple and could have been fixed easily with like a 20 dollar part. So I would like your feed back as to what you think it may be and the more i hear of what it could be I will go in that direction first. Thank you for your help and I will keep you updated! Rob.

I, ve had the EXACT problem with my chev. cav.(1997)as rob has and figured it was something to do w/fuel, because when it died it would start up no problem but then could die again or not. I checked spark plugs and they were ok. i checked the air filter and it was clean. I've checked air lines and don't see a problem. I've boiled down to thinking it could be the fuel pump or maybe the wiring for fuel pump.I've also as rob has, taken it in twice to the mechanic (the first time)and said it was my 3rd gear in my tranny was sticking so when i stopped it wouldn't shift back to first and kill the engine. so i thought good that must of been it, WRONG!. took it in again(with same problems)and said it was my fuel filter and replaced it. fine, for a while and then same thing again. luckily i'm on warranty with this car so i'm going to take it in again and say check the fuel pump. hopefully thats it. If there is anybody out there who knows alot about chevy cavaliers please post. wish me luck!
