S-10 Blazer won't start

Kristie (96.247.154.189) - Sun Jun 29 15:16:48 2008

My 2000 Chevy S-10 Blazer was running fine and then the other day, wouldn't start. No warning signs. We've ruled out the battery, alternator and the starter. We also changed the ignition module, which didn't help. Any suggestions??!!??

Change your cap and rotor and don't buy cheap stuff , they don't last . Buy from chevy dealer. I have '99 , '00 , and a '02 blazers in my driveway . I know , been there and done that !!!!

If you have starting power but no start, you can try a trick I learned to check to see if it is a fuel pump problem. Have someone rap hard on the fuel tank while attempting to start the car. If it starts, it usually means that the fuel pump is bad and needs replacement. Hope this helps answer any future inquiries.

I have been having alot of problems... when I take off my blazer bogs down and will barely go... even when I push the peddal the the floor then I have to let off so it will finally go. Also I just recently changed my battery but my volts are not staying where they should be. I replaced the alternator about a year ago, and it is starting to have a toxic/fume smell. I also have a really lound rattle from underneath. And on occasion my security light flashes and then my car won't start for approx 10-20 min. Lots of issues any suggestions.. yeah I know...time for a mechanic LOL

My 2000 S-10 Blazers brake lights stay on all the time. I have put a new brake switch in it and they still stay on. I can sit in the Blazer without the keys in it and hit the brakes and the radio comes on, the lights will come on, the windows will roll up just like u have the key in the run position. The vehicle runs really well.Someone old me it could be the turn signal switch but I have no clue.

Reply #7 Jim (69.113.70.9) - Sat Oct 4 13:44:22 2008

common problem for these blazers are the fuel pumps, make sure you replace them with delco products cause the aftermarket ones do not last. other problems are leaking spiders but that will cause rough idling, along with leaking fuel lines inside the intake

Reply #8 KRS (67.168.213.210) - Sun Oct 5 03:48:16 2008

I just bought a 97 blazer when I went to pick it up it would not start none of the lights in the dash would come on I tested everything finaly relized it was the ignition I was going to replace it but instead I got some SAFETY SOLVENT (ELECTRICal cleaner) and sprayed in the key hole and turned it on and off a few times then sprayed it again then I let it sit 10 mins and then I turned the key back and forth until the dash lights came on once the little lights in the dash came on then tried to start it and it started. never had a problem since then works great so give this a try I am pretty sure it will work.... GOOD LUCK & DRIVE SAFE

I have a 94 Chevy Blazer S-10. I started smelling gasoline around the back of it when I would get out and walk around. Then one day it started to lose power and although it would always start fine it would not stay running. If I let it sit for 30 minutes or so it would run fine for a good while then all of the sudden the same problems. I bought a whole new fuel system and someone came to the house to replace everything. We were figuring it was the fuel pump. The lines were rusted and thought the gas smell was a small leak. After replacing the fuel filter he said that is what the problem was and nothing else was wrong. It runs like a dream but the gasoline smell is still there. You don't notice it when you are on the highway but in town you smell it coming inside the truck and its strong when you shut it off and get out.

I got a 98 chevy blazer. 1 day i went out 2 start it an it would'nt start. My fuel pump, starter, plugs, distributer all seem to be good. Im leaning towards the injectors being clog. I dont want 2 spend a whole lot of money in repairs. Bought gas cleaner an throttle body cleaner. Cant seem 2 figure out where exzactly to spray the body cleaner. What should my next move be?

I'm having same problem as reply #20 my 1999 Chevy Blazer was running fine then my wife and I left for Valentine's Day Dinner and did not make it 200 yards from my house and it just died. no warning no sputtering just died. It will turn over just fine but don't hear fuel pump and throttle body is not getting fuel so thought it was fuel pump but got to looking and just like john I poured a little fuel into throttle body and nothing. I then checked the spark and there is no spark coming out of coil. Talked to a friend (shade tree mechanic) and he said that the crank sensor could cause it to not only not get fuel but also not get spark. Replaced that and still nothing. I'm starting to think maybe the computer is out. Any ideas or advice? please?

hi guys ,

check out your fuel injectors.remove the connectors from each fuel injector and check the ohm values for each.sometime the injectors ohm value value will be too low causing a dead short which will turn off your injector driver circuit in the ecu.take a multimeter and touch the two leads to the injector black on one side and red on the other and see if you have any injectors that have low resistance.like less than 10 ohms .if you find this is the case leave the connector off and try to start the car.but dont drive it like this.buy a chiltons manuel to find out what the injectors ohm value should be and if bad replace them.go on ebay to get them .they will be cheaper!talk to a tech for specs.remember: when you use fuel injector cleaner it will eat the varnish off of your injector coils which will do this.and the manufacture of the car does not want anyone to know that this is a common problem with their injectors.they have a lot on the shelf.check with fuel injector connection on ebay.its much cheaper.

good luck , Rob

Hi;

I noticed a lot of you were having problems with the Blazer.

Most people forget about the important basics.

You need fuel, spark(at teh plugs, and compression.(Engine turning over)

The guy witth the coil with no fire? Think it may be the coil not the sensors.

As most of you find out the hard way after changing all the sensors, there not bad most of the time.

as for the fuel getting to the engine? well try checking the pressure at the fuel rail. Under a dust cap there is a valve to check the pressure. It can be checked with any pressure guage, should read between 50-65 lbs pressure with engine turning over.

As for the lady with teh wierd electrical problem, it could be the ignition switch or computer. No way to tell without having the switch checked. Blazers are also prone to electrical distribution problems causing batteries to run down after sitting for a day or two. Unexplained battery load. Can be isolated by removing one fuse at a time until cause if found. This can be done bt watching closely as you dissconnect the positive battery terminal tiyh everything turned off. Doo this with Key off. Only thing that should have power is the radio. I sughgest removing the radio fuse first.

Hope these suggestions help and save you money.

Oh I own a blazer a 2000 and my problem was solved by myself rather than a mechanic who replaced the rotor cap, pick-up sensor cam sensor, throttle position sensor and wanted to change the fuel pump. I took it home and found the ignition coil was bad.

So much for hired help.

Ken

I have a 1997 Chevy S10 4X4 4.3 Blazer. The problem that is that it will turn over but will not start. All the panel lights wont come on . We have performed the following:checked the fuse: replaced the fuel pump: Sensors and wire and plugs.A friend of mine believe that it is the CPU or Brain box. Please let me know if this could be the problem before I purchase this item and it still might not start.

Thanks

truck will start up and run fine for a 1/2 hour then die out. very hard to restart, and will only run for a min.{if im lucky most of time will only restart after completely cooled down} replaced fuel filter, fuel pump, cleaned out fuel tank, installed new fuel. I have good spark, but the injectors stop spraying fuel and kill the engine. i noticed when i try to restart no fuel spraying from injectors when truck turning over. if i get truck running and hold throttle at 2000 rpms i can keep truck running, but noticed that rpms go up and down a little was wondering if i could have a bad fuel pressure regulator. NOTE when it sits alnight will start up and run fine in the morning for a 1/2 hour then die.what could be telling the fuel to stop. PLEASE HELP EMAIL ME ronbrosius@verizon.net THANKS

ran out of gas many times due to the gauge not reading the right amount of fuel often - so i would have to park it after stalling out and walk to gas station - like twice a day - after a while the truck started making a loud clicking (not oil related) noise - maybe it might be the engine mount(s) or a belt or something - but this problem only started after constantly drying out the fuel tank - finally the sound got so loud that the car shut off and now when i try to start the truck it starts to turn over but never does - the clickin sound can be heard when tryin to start the truck... whats wrong with my truck? :( fuel pump, fuel injection, fuel filter, pressure, regulator...? its got to be fuel related cause with the exception of the gas running out - the car is kept well... After problem is fixed i think im gonna keep full tank in the gas tank from now on - lol HELP ME PLEASE - thank you guys alot of your posts were helpful from just me reading before posting

Hi, my blazer started messing up about 2 hours ago. I was on my way to school, and the check engine light started flashing like crazy, and it started running really rough. When I got to school, I turned it off and popped the hood, thinking it was the plug wires because I've been having a cylinder 2 misfire, so I checked the plugs and wires, and they were all fine. Then I got back in to start it, an it would crank for a second or two, then make a loud knocking noise, only once, then just stop. The engine stops cranking, the lights go off, the radio too. It also makes a squeeling noise when it makes the knock. And it keeps doing that everytime I try to start it. Any ideas??

2000 Chevy Blazer doesn't start when it is wet

After heavy rain or long period of any rain, my 200 blazer won't start. Once it dries out, it runs just fine.

Twice my mechanic tried to fix it. Unable to determine problem.

Speculated that might be faulty distributor. Was there a recall?

I notice that after not starting for a few days and then starting (once dry) as I pull out of parking spot I hear what sounds like flowing water draining from somewhere (no idea where).

Thoughts?

I am working on my 1994 S10 Blazer. The SUV starts randomly and then dies. All the dash and electrical systems appear to go down. Took to a mechanic 3 times and had the fuel pump, fuel lines replaced, with no luck. Have changed the EGR and the O2 Sensos. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and still problems. Checked fuses and relays all seems ok. Codes come up with no problems. Window motor stopped working and windsheild wiper washer pump went out. Replaced pump and is working ok. Only thing left is a computer failure. Mechanics don't understand why it keeps having the same problems. Any guidence or direction would be appriciated.
