Ignition key removal 97 Blazer

Have a 97 blazer 2wd with shifter on floor.

Only way to get ignition key out is to manually

push the "plunger" up at the ignition switch

on steering column and the key wil release.

Any ideas ?

this is because some where the electrical system has lost connection. there is a solenoid in the steering column that received power when the vehicle is in Park so that it will. Check the electrical
