Chevrolet-1500 Pickup - Vibration in Chev Silverado Pick up
Joseph D. Miceli (68.84.10.115) - Fri Feb 6 10:44:03 2009
Hey guys, I just purchased a new 2008 Chev Silverady 1500, single seat, 4X4, 4.8V8, 8 foot bed. The truck vibrates at speeds between 45 to 65 MPH when the gas is slightly applied to keep up the speed. The vibration is clearly noticable and disturbing. If any of you good people know what the cause is and how to correct the problem I would appreciate hearing from you ASAP. Regards, Joe Miceli. cell 301 526 7643

Joe, I have a 1995 Astro Van with 247, 000 + on it and it has just developed the same problem. For the last 2 months I have had the following items checked: Transfer Case, Harmonic Balancer, water pump (for misalignment), transmission, drive shaft, alignment, brakes, wheel balance, rims, differential...... nothing. If i set the cruise control at 68 the van will vibrate when it gently accelerates out of OD and then do it again when it goes back in. It has also done it at 44 - 45 mph. no codes (of course I am stuck with GM1 not OBD2). Right now i am having them try a tune up. there is a LONG shot possibility that it could be an intermittent cam sensor out of position problem... but YOU would get that code with your computer. This one has me, the mechanics, the transmission guys and the "experts" at justanswer.com stumped. I was leaning towards torque converter chatter but naturally - EVERYONE tells me that they rarely, if ever, do that in this transmission. If I find out, I'll call you. If you find out, email me... cusanelli_ m _a @hotmail.com Thanks Mike

I have a 04 z71 with the 5.3 and 90k on it. Just took mine in for the same thing and the trans shop said it was common and it is caused by the torque converter look up. At that speed when the trans shifts into final gear the torque converter gets the signal to look up. They say the valve body starts leaking and not holding pressure and turn the lock up off and on causing the chatter. You can check this by applying the brake while the vehicle is chattering this will turn off the lock up and allow the converter to slip again the chatter shoul dissappear.

I have an 01 2wd ext cab with 167000 miles on it. Other than the dist. cap getting soaked every time it rains. no problems until the last week or 3. Vibration between 35 and 50 at worst but can feel it at high speed a little. The Vibration does not change when I change gears on the trans. Just did the drive shaft support bearing but only helped a little?!? What is up? Wheel bearings? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks Mike

The vibration during acceleration or holding of current speed is a problem I had with my throttle position sensor in a mazda(ford) pickup in the past. Although I have noticed a quiver in my chevy during frequent let off and back on maintaining speed. All I know is my '97 3/4 ton has gained a few miles since the '01 act up! They don't make em like they used to!!M

The vibration is either caused by the CV Axle(s) or the Wheel Bearings. It is most likely the Axles.I have linked to a site that provides new wheel bearings, but I was able to get new axles from them, all I had to do was ask. Good Luck!

I have a 05 Silverado 5.3L 2wd. I notice the vibration the most around 45 when the accelerator is leveled off. I have also noticed it when I am braking from a higher speed... it will pulsate like the rotors are warped but only during this speed. I did have a bent rim on the truck, which messed with the tires. I have since replaced the rim and put 4 michelins on but still can feel the vibration. I have had the transmission guys look at it as well and he says there is not possible way it is coming from the transmission. All of the bearings and joints and everything are in perfect order. The only other option I have been given is driving an hour away to the one guy in this part of Kentucky that balances driveshafts. Trying to get some advice before I drop more money into it and don't see any results. Thanks!Kevin

I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 ext. cab V6 with 44, 000 miles on it. It is in the shop right now for a vibration and noise between 45-50 mph. The shop just called and told me that it was cause by my exhaust housing and of course it wasn't covered under warranty. My question is: If it's the exhast why don't I hear this noise all of time and not at a specific speed. Another shop said it was transmission related, maybe a sensor or torque converter. If anyone gets a answer on this please let me know.
