'91 Legend Overheating

Prob: My 91 Legendoverheating Symptoms: (1) temp gauge spikes and then drops back off sometimes, other times continues to rise until cooling system overheats. (2) temp gauge spikes at same time that heat stops flowing out of heater (3) turning the heater control knob doesn't seem to affect problem Measures taken: changed all coolant hoses, new radiator, new heater core, bleed air from coolant system, changed T-stats twice. Questions: Is there a water flow control valve in the system? If so is it a 3 way or 2 way valve? Is there anything else in coolant system that would cause water flow to fluctuate? Any other ideas?

Sounds like the head gasket is blown or seeping, get a compression test done on it
